They don't call it Government Motors for nothing! [emoji14]
Yet, of the 6 car companies that took government money, Ford is the only one still paying back the government. Their loan matures this summer.

GM is capacity constrained right now until Oshawa is up and going.  Basically right now GM is just substituting one sale for another.  Assuming the margins are similar, you are basically taking the 100 million dollars to develop this special variant and lighting it on fire.

Interesting, but GM spends 5.6 MILLION DOLLARS on a 30 second lame @$$ Super Bowl commercial with Will Ferrell in it about EVs and beating out Norway. Way to spend your money wisely GM!

I feel for the performance enthusiast who want the V-8 sound. I had tuned exhaust up until my 60 birthday. Let us face the fact it doesn’t need to be a V-8 to perform anymore. I have four vehicles currently. The slowest is my Avalanche. My wife’s performance sedan does 0-60 in the 5s, gets almost 30 mpg on the highway and is a 6. My wife’s collector car is an Acura. Only the holy Grail cars of the past are worth more. Thanks to the fast and furious. I’d rather have a 70 Chevelle. At 65 times are changing. I’d even consider electric once they reach 500 miles with the AC on. And the price is right. I drive my truck like it’s a Sunday meal. Last of the greatest. I daily a CRV. It’s kinda fun. Times are changing.

So, taking a little side slat in this subject.... with all the 'green' push and saying gas engines will be DOA in 13-14 years...along with all the "green"$$$ being spent, both by the manufacturers and (planned) by the government, wouldn't it make sense for the manufacturers to start developing true, viable motors/storage technologies that are true plug-n-play replacements for the vast majority of already existing vehicles that would be there at the 'end of the gasoline' era? Additionally, have the government and eco-groups (who are demanding the change) fund/subsidize said replacement, since they are forcing the change and we are all reasonably happy with what we have?

In 13-14 years, my 2020 Silverado 5.3 might have 120K-150K miles on the clock, so 87 octane is no longer available anywhere... I could possibly be bought off if my 5.3 got replaced by an equivalent eco-terrorist demanded 355 eqvHP,  383 eqvFTLBS and the fuel cell was replaced with a power source that would take my truck around 450 miles/charge and would charge fully in say 5-10 minutes... or charge while I went inside and got a cup of coffee....

And then there's my motor home.... since the 8.1L V-8 is large... I guess they will have to develop a smaller version of the electric used in a locomotive....but then I think the power source would eat up all the free lbs left between the 18K-19K GAWR and the 26K GVWR....

In reality, if we are going to be forced to change, appropriate replacement technologies need to be developed now...otherwise Big Brother will have us all driving electric SmartCar-looking bubbles... if we get to have personal transport at all... right? Then all the truck owners will be talking the same 'pry my dead cold hands' mantra that the second amendment people chant...

(please accept the satire for what it is... and comment on the concept/idea, as appropriate).

You can have my 2020 Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss LT CCSB 6.2 when you pry it from my cold dead hands. Oh, same with my guns too. The big difference is, electric vehicles are an alternative to gasoline. There's no alternative for guns. What I've come to realize is the left is focused on segregating what it deems deplorable, and internal combustion engines are the new boogieman.

Just another power trip. Covid is wearing out so now we are onto Carbon. Control is the common theme within all of their causes. Not care for others, or the environment.

When electric vehicles are compelling to the masses, people will buy them. Shouldn’t have to force it. I certainly see some clear advantages, as well as many downsides at the moment.

Laser Blasters and Light sabers
Give it time and California will modify its micro stamping to include both of those. They'll want to be able to trace the laser blaster and light saber back to the local gang killing.
