Does anyone know if it is possible to use a front USB Hub with an IO3 radio?  I've been fighting trying to get this to work all week and I'm getting nowhere.

I had the junk yard I bought my console from cut the body harness side of all the wiring so I have all the stock connectors.   I soldered in the extra accessory power outlet connector and the power for the USB hub to the original accessory power outlet wire. I took my harness out of the jump seat and that is what I am using.   I separated the USB connector out from the loom and ran it to the front of the console. Plugged it into the USB hub along with the 12V power. I then ran a black to grey USB cable from the front hub to the hub under the armrest along with the cable from the jump seat that provides the 3.5mm audio to that and power.

What I get is that none of the USB ports work.  The 3.5mm jack works, but none of the USB ports provide any power. If I take the USB/3.5mm module and use it in the front instead of the hub it works perfectly.  If I use the hub by itself it doesn't work.  I think I either have a bad front USB hub or the IO3 doesn't support the hub.  Anyone else tackled this?

i have the same problem, hope someone has a suggestion

Did you do it the same as I did?  It isn't looking good for being able to get it to work.  I tried every combination of cables and couldn't get the hub to work. I tried 2 different USB with 3.5mm jacks and they both work in either place, but as soon as I try and add a hub it stops working.

I haven’t used the usb ports since 2016

.5 amps is not enough to charge squat in 2020 and bluetooth works better for audio

pgamboa  Any ideas?  Has anyone tried using your harness with an IO3?

Yes. With IO3/IOB systems, you cannot use the factory GM usb cables like in my video.

You’ll have to use generic usb cables from
Amazon. You’ll need two of them.

You’ll have to shave the rubber ends so they fit.

One cable will reconnect under the passenger seat. Other end will go to the front usb hub, in the passenger side port.

The 2nd cable will plug in the “output” of the front usb hub (driver side) and feed the brown port.

Interesting. I thought the GM cables were just normal USB cables with a special connector end on them.  What makes them not work?

They are just USB cables. I meant using the GM usb cables as shown in my video

I can’t speak on your harness build, but customers that have bought my harness with the recommended usb cables have had success in IO3/IOB systems. The “output” of the front usb hub doesn’t send full data, so the console compartment hub only provides charging, whereas the front the USB hub provides charging and data capabilities.

the part about the data capabilities makes sense...i think a lot of people have problems with onboard usb systems because they tend to be very finicky for the reasons you just listed (data/charging). thats something good to point out to people that not every usb is the same and there will be (and are) differences when it comes to technologies.

I spent a few hours troubleshooting today.  I still cannot get the front hub to work.   Either my hub is bad, or the IO3 doesn't support using the hub.

The front hub doesn't work by itself but if I swap it out for the USB/3.5mm module it works with the same data and power coming in. I did try both the passenger and driver USB ports on the hub just in case I was doing it backwards.  I verified I have 12V power and a good ground, which I knew since the other module works in its place.

Not sure if I should bite the bullet and order another front USB hub and try again.  I'd really like to know for certain that there is someone who has them both working with an IO3.

    • GDI Injector tips are in the combustion chamber and yes, they are subject to the same aromatic hydrocarbon based carbon build up the entire chamber is subjected to. Chevron Techron is a PEA based cleaner (polyether amine)  that is VERY effective if the dose is high enough.  Carbon the tips disrupts the spray pattern so keeping them clean is kind of a big deal. It will clean more than the injector tips. It will keep the inside of the injector tip clean as well. When they shut off they 'hot soak' building varnish internally behind the pintle. The tip, unlike most MFI systems have several orifices of very small diameter. They have to stay clean to work right. That spray pattern is supposed to spray into the cup in the piston, not all over the cylinder walls. Old guys will understand...    Top Tier Chevron has enough of the cleaner to be effective if used regularly. Other solutions could be Shell V Power Nitro + Premium and Exxon/Mobil Supreme Plus Premium ONLY use a different chemistry to the same effect with the added bonus of a friction/antiwear additive as well. Red Line SI-1 is PEA based as well with an upper cylinder lube. There's a white paper on their site for shock treatment of system left untreated for long periods. AMSOIL PI has a full system cleaner of yet another chemistry that will strip carbon out of the power cylinder pretty quick. Gumout Regane is also PEA based but at very low doses and those that are isopropanol based will not be effective. Alcohol content is way to low. Chevron Techron in any pump gas, Use by package instructions. 10 oz per 15 gallons every 3,000 miles. First use may require two treatments.    So, Techron, Red Line SI-1 and AMSOIL PI if batch treating and Shell, XOM Premium or any Chevron Fuel will not just keep it clean, but will clean it if dirty. No other fuel "I'm aware of will do that".    Flex Fuel motors. If you use at least 40% alcohol on a regular basis they won't carbon at all. PEA is not recommended for fuels over E-20     (www.carparts.com)
    • It is always a good idea to exercise it at least every few months to make sure the actuators don’t get stuck. It is also a good idea to actually drive it for at least a few hundred feet when you do that so seals experience motion and oil movement.  Off pavement or snow/ice is best for this, but driving wet pavement in a straight line for a  short distance will work if you don’t have other options. I have  forgotten and gone as long as six months between exercising it on my 2021 and it has always shifted promptly.  I usually just use my straight 300 foot gravel driveway.
    • Absolutely!  These forums are legion with posts of people complaining that their truck wouldn't go into 4WD when they needed it to.  Most of them hadn't used it ever or in years.   I try to run mine through the paces every month or so and drive it a few miles on a dirt trail near the house a couple times a year if not already off-roading.
    • The battery is  very new, The  truck is  essentially undrivable  so I have had it  towed  to the  dealer. Since  this is an E Assist  truck  the dealer  seems  the only option at this point. Scan showes multiple  codes. The  repair wll not be  cheap
    • Not a bad idea to check codes. But, if you have an old battery and/or electrical gremlins, most of those codes will be false.
