I drive a silveradp 1500 custom package with the 6 speed transmission. Whenever I am cruising around 40mph to 50mph my rpm gauge will start to bounce when just coasting. It will go up and down between 600 rpm and 1500. It only does this when coasting and also in reverse around 15 mph. It will stay bouncing until I hit the gas or brake.  I just feel like these transmissions weren't tuned very good because my transmission  is trying to shift into 4th gear at 35 mph and it's just so much more extra wear. Thanks

I have a 6 speed in my 2016 and I have no problems with it under any condition.  Same goes for my 2019 10 speed.

how many miles do you have on the truck? Have you loaned it to anyone recently.. Mine will change its shift patterns sometimes  then it seems to relearn and  shift better .  I know unless i drive it aggressively it will be in  5-6 gear  at 34-40 mph and it upshifts  perfectly. sometimes down shifts in traffic can be a bit clunky thou.

if its new or close to new . give it a bit to adjust to your driving maybe

I have a 2020 Custom Tail Boss with the 6 speed transmission. I have noticed the shifting in my truck every once in a while too. I think it might be a combination of things like driving style, shift points and gearing. When I am just cruising and let my truck slow down naturally, not using the brake, but maintain a little bit of throttle input it downshifts when it goes below 35 mph.

I haven’t noticed my Tach bouncing around but then again I don’t really pay attention to it much.

My neighbor has a 2020 Custom Trail Boss with 5.3 and 6-speed. He has less than 3,000 miles on the truck. It's his daily driver, and he tow a small toy hauler in the weekend to a place only 2 hours away. Engine already failed at 1,100 miles. Now his transmission is overheating. Loaded up, he not over the towing limits on his truck. Dealership said there's an issue with the trans valving. I'm not an expert on transmissions, and I have no idea if what the OP is experiencing could have anything to do with the trans valving, but thought I'd post up just in case there is a correlation.
