Payload difference between 2500 and 3500 gas

So I know the actual towing numbers aren't much different, but what would be roughly the payload difference between a LT 2500 and 3500 gas? This would be a crew cab, not sure if the standard vs long bed really makes much of a difference. 

 

Yeah I know you can find exact numbers on the trucks themselves, problem is there are no trucks near me!

I looked into this same thing and there is roughly 600 pounds different in the payload capacities. Just got lucky and found a 2500HD Chevy High Country and snapped it up. I would order a 3500HD though if I had my choice.

600-800lbs depending on cab config and trim level and options.

Does bed length come in to play on it?

 

Ram and Ford offer the larger fuel tanks with long beds so they make sense to me on those

Not necessarily as GVWR goes up to match cab and bed length.  Old body 2500HD were either 9500 GVWR gas or 9900 GVWR diesel.

 

What comes into play is engine choice and wheel/tire combo.  17 inch SRW trucks have lower payload and GVWR than 18 or 20 inch wheel SRW.  In the chart below you will notice this.    

 

This is also why 1 tons only are 18 or 20 inch wheel trucks.  

 

Here is the 2500HD GVWR listings. 

 

To understand the model codes for each one: 

 

Example.  CK20903 

 

CK - 4x4

20 - 2500hd

9 - long bed

03 - regular cab

 

So that said:

 

CC - 2WD

CK - 4WD

20 - 2500hd

30 - 3500hd

7 - standard box

9 - long box

03 - regular cab

53 - double cab

43 - crew cab

Also on fuel tank size.  GM relocating the DEF tank under the truck screwed up the tank sizes.  2011-2019 they were all 36 gallon on gas and diesel.

 

2020+up, all gas are 36 gallon.  Diesel crew cab all beds are 36 gallon.  Diesel double cab are 36 gallon long box and 29 gallon standard box.  Diesel regular cab are 28 gallons.

 

GM should have left the DEF tank where it was like on 2011-2019.

Isnt there  a pretty big towing capacity difference between the two, its like 4-5k lbs.

Not the gas models. They're rated within 100 or 200 pounds of each other according to the 2021 towing guides

No your right between each model with each engine.

Common GCW so max gooseneck will actually be on 20 series truck because they weigh the least.  Buy a 30 series if you want to push the limits.

Just for a data point, my 2021 GMC 3500HD SLT CC LB SRW Gas with front camper spring option , 18 inch wheels, premium pkg, and second battery has a payload rating of 4054 lbs.

Show me your sticker I highly doubt that I could be wrong but I highly doubt that I got a 2021 GMC sierra 3500hd regular cab 8ft bed srw 4x4 sle 6.6l gas with camper springs and I'm pushing 4430 payload I highly doubt the crew cab is only 376lbs heavier the diesel in your configuration weighs 8200lbs+

A 2500hd CC SRW LT Gas weights in at 7161 I kbow your 3500hd is slightly heavier let's just say it weighs the same the gvw on a 3500hd gas is 11,100 lbs minus 7161 gives you a 3939 payload capacity that's based in the weight on a Chevy 2500hd CC SRW LT Gas yoyrs should be around 37-3800
