Other than being illegal what's wrong with having it fall off. Or get broken.

There's no O2 sensor so how will it know if if it fell off?

I don't see a benefit but that doesn't stop people from doing it.

 

A proper working cat has minimal exhaust restriction. Back pressure has never been an issue.
