Transponder and fob

Question regarding transponder and fob that are cut by the dealer. Does it work out of the box or does it still required the truck to be present for programming?

If I understand you correctly, the FOB has to be programed by the dealer. The keys, you can buy on line (ebay), have them cut & then you can do the programming IF you have a GOOD FOB. Hope that helps you.

As I understand it, the dealer can provide a set of key and fob based on vin.

 

The question is, can the dealer preprogrammed key and fob without the truck there and If so will the key and fob provided by the dealer work out of the box? 

 

I know you can cut and program key & fob yourself as I already done it myself.

no the key and fob can not be preprogrammed, the vehicle has to be there

Thanks. Was afraid I would need to rekey the truck. 

 

Spoke with the dealer, he didn't sound to confident with their practices and was recommended to rekey as a prevention.
