2021 GMC Bad Lifter Problem Blown Engine

I have a 2021 Sierra Denali 1500 6.2L. Lifer problem caused complete engine failure at 13000 miles. Dealer it was towed too had 7 more in service same problem. So if they only replace 4 lifters. Obviously this problem is widespread.

 

Those of you that have had this same nightmare.

 

Does the other side fail?

 

Is the replacement the same faulty lifters that caused the failure?

 

Any feedback appreciated.

Do a search. This is all over the forum threads.

 

No they are new lifters, and yes the others will fail, fight for all lifters replaced.

When was your truck built? Mines 7-2020 no issues so far 11k on truck. This is making me nervous though

Wouldn't worry too much, if something does fail, you have your factory warranty to fix it.

 

You get a lot of "one and done" posts here, just to stir the pot. Doubt very much if any dealer is just telling him exact numbers of failures, if they even have had any at all. Easy to embellish any story behind your keyboard. like your engine being damaged beyond repair, but they are going to change one bank of lifters, OP said 4, so guessing just 2 cylinders🤔😬

Trolls usually don't discriminate against the pot they are stirring. Any pot will do.

 

COVID has created a lot of spare time for the "spare parts" of the world....

My turn for lifter failure at 7,246 miles on the wife's Escalade Sport not on my AT4.

 

Happened this week during slow acceleration at around 40mph, car started shuddering, engine warning light flashed, traction control light came on. On the dash got a number of warnings (Service Stabilitrak, Rear Axle System Off & Service Traction Control). Also the air suspension dropped to 'improve stability'. Additional noise from under car from transmission tunnel. 

 

More importantly, hence the post here, the recovery truck driver said this was the 5th GM lifter failure he had done recently when I mentioned it was probably lifter issue (no way of confirming his comment but it was an interesting response from him). So I suspect issue is pretty widespread when additionally you consider the replacement parts are on backorder (dealer has found some from another dealer and due for delivery next week). Overall will be out of service for 2 weeks.

The AT4 (built 12/20) has done just 6k miles & I hope I am not about to see the same on the truck.

Frustrated with GM but have to say dealership have been great.

Yup I was thinking the same thing sort of, why is it that all the people that post this problem are new members are they going to google doing a search then joining just to post this? I find it kinda strange trust me iam not saying its made up but I think some people just post this problem just to stir the pot and it didn't happen to them. Just like the big rush on oil cooler lines blowing off there for awhile that thread was dumped on by so many posts about the issue for weeks then all the sudden no more problems with the oil cooler lines again most were new members. Maybe iam wrong but it does seem strange.

 

I posted this when the rush of oil cooler lines blowing off. Iam good friends with the shop manager at our local dealership and ask him if he has seen any problems with the line blowing off and he said no but he has heard but none has came into the dealership shop for the issue.

Yeah, but alot of people only post or come to a forum when they have a problem. Then look to see if it is an isolated issue? Trust me this lifter issue on the 2021 is a huge issue. I went to rent a 2021 suburban from Enterprise months back. They had to bring it from another location to us. As we stood in front they pulled up and the lifter let go just a block away. 6000 miles on it. We were going cross country, this could have been a disaster. Well they called over to the airport where there were more 21 suburbans and 2 were down for the same reason!!! We had to wait till later in the day for another one. We did 9000 miles on it in 30 days it had 15000 on it when we got it. No issues but it was on my mind out in the middle of nowhere! GM penny pinched on the wrong part. If I spent 80K on a new Yukon and had this happen I would lose my cookies. We bought the 3.0 diesel and love it. When things get normal, we will get a Yukon XL with the 3.0, its a great motor with insane fuel mileage.

Yes it is general motors hidding there true problems not standing over it

      My truck is a ¾ ton but my placard also says 80 for the rear tires, I think I might have the upgraded suspension to the 3500 series maybe.   I put my air down to 60 and the light was still on, and there was no way I was putting over 60 psi in the rear empty and not towing because I knew the actual number Toyo gave me and I didn't wanna ruin the center of my tires!   And you actually can change it in the settings from metric or is and it will show kph or mph then when you go into your tire settings it will be either psi or kpa, but it would be nice to just change it directly on the tire psi page

      Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money".

      I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back.
