Hi, so I'm at the halfway point in swapping my transmission with one I bought off market place. Well I don't know if I was scammed or something, but I'm pretty sure this transmission wont work. First off the bell housing on the "new" one doesnt have the top center bolt hole. Second the input shaft for the torque converter is almost smaller it seems. When I picked up this transmission they also gave the torque converter and the place where it goes onto the transmission it about 2" shallow compared to the one that was on the truck. And last, the body of the "new" transmission seems to be smaller. I measured from the front to back and they measured the same. It also has the same plugins and all that but I just don't want to go through all the trouble of putting it in to take it out. I've also been told to swap bell housings, which I would do but I still see some other red flags.

Thanks

They probably gave you a 1996-1999 4L60e that is used in the OBS body style trucks and not the 1999+ NBS body style trucks. That's just my guess without seeing them side by side and comparing part numbers.

They made both trucks for 1999.

I had a feeling that was the situation. It’s just weird. The guy I bought it from had a old body style and he said that his transmission went out and he bought it to put in his truck and his mechanic said it wouldn’t work in his truck but maybe that was a load. With the transmission already being removed would I be better off sending it to get rebuilt?

many tranny shops, will just exchange yours for one they give you that has already been rebuilt.  Since you are doing the wrench work its much cheaper.

GM reman from a dealer is all I would do if I needed a trans.

If the bell housing comes off the “new” transmission and it’s missing the very top bolt and a smaller input shaft, you have a 4.3L V6 transmission
