Orange peel is just caused by improper spray technique or overly thick paint. Notice I said overly thick not just thick. It's not really the quality that was affected by the EPA, well yes and no. The quality was affected because the paint formula changed. Have you ever seen a paint job from Mexico? They are some of the most vibrant and beautiful paint jobs ever because they are using the materials we can't anymore. (I think recently, maybe 2 years, ago they did away with that though) I won't deny GMs paint is ass cheeks but the EPA regs caused it to be worse because now they have to use the cheap trash paint. Also the process that they used to do with paint was changed with the EPA because of the water waste pollution stuff.

GM paint = garbage

GM paint + EPA regs = hot garbage

If you hate GM so much go get in a Ford fella

OP, I'd go with paint protection film. In fact I did on my own truck. Partial hood, front bumper, A-pillars, partial  roof, door cups, door edges, partial fenders.
