Left front window goes back down after I roll it back up....

 

Is there an easy fix to this? I don't want to drive all the way down for warranty repair.

OM has info about this problem.

 

It might be because it thinks it is hitting an obstruction and the safety is opening it back up. 

Has it had a 'low' or disconnected battery? 

 

Regardless....

 

Window Automatic Reversal System
The express-close feature will reverse window movement if it comes in contact with an object.

Extreme cold or ice could cause the window to auto-reverse.

The window will operate normally after the object or condition is removed. 

 

Automatic reversal can be overridden....

 

Automatic Reversal System Override
{Warning
If automatic reversal system override is active, the window will not reverse automatically. You or others could be
injured and the window could be damaged. Before using automatic reversal system override, make sure that all
people and obstructions are clear of the window path.

 

When the engine is on, override the automatic reversal system by pulling and holding the window switch if conditions prevent it from closing. 

 

 

but you may need to 'reprogram' the windows....

 

Programming the Power Windows


Programming may be necessary if the vehicle battery has been disconnected or discharged. If the window is unable to
express-up, program each express-close window:
 

1. Close all doors.
2. Turn the ignition on or to ACC/ ACCESSORY.
3. Partially open the window to be programmed.

Then close it and continue to pull the switch briefly after the window has fully closed.
4. Open the window and continue to press the switch briefly after the window has fully opened.

 

Be sure to complete all four steps.

Never had a low or disconnected battery. I'm in southern California so it's not cold or hot outside. Never been in 50°F or less temperatures. I will try programming the power windows though, thanks!

Do you have inchannel ventvisors on it.  My 16 used to do it once in a while.

Crap accumulated in weather stripping, window or mechanism in door that is loose are other possible causes. 

 

Anything that makes the window motor work harder than is expected.

This happens to me if I hit a large bump in the road while using the express up mode. Do you remember if you hit a bump or pothole in the road at the same time?

It's always been clean, conditions aren't dusty at all, and I have never hit a pothole. In fact, I very rarely rolled it down the whole time I owned it. The motor doesn't seem to be working harder than the others. It has only 7,500 miles on it.

Not really. I don't take it four wheeling anyway. No bumps, really. About 90% of the miles are highway. I don't see why that would happen. I just tried to reset it just now.. nope, after I get it all the way up and then back down then hit the down button again, then get it back up, it just goes up for about 1/3 of the way then automatically reverses itself back down. Just now, I had to do it about eight times and then finally it went up and closed. The last time I opened the window was at Costco car wash about a month ago and have not used it since then.

      With large equipment or deep mud it is more of a use the higher gear to avoid spinning tires, getting stuck because of spinning tires and doing damage to your machine. The idea is if you run out of torque before you spin tires you can still downshift for more torque. If you are just spinning your tires in the lowest available gear you are stuck and things break.   Automatic transmissions, traction control and electronic transfer cases change the calculation a little as you the driver have less control over each piece.

      are there any codes? with lots of rust, perhaps disconnect/clean both sides of the connection/examine cable ends (the wires) for corrosion going into the sheath & replace if necessary/reconnect ALL the power AND ground cables between the battery, engine, frame, cab, fuse box and starter charm.li (website) has a no-start diagnostic procedure you can work through to get it working.

      Its no wonder you've gravitated to the oil types and brands you have in later years after trying certain brands and one being a specialty oil or at least very hard to come by up here and the other would have been a commonly found oil of the era and the vastly different outcomes as a result to using the vehicles in question the same distance for an OCI . It shows what marketing hype can do without actually having the product to back up the claims and that is no different now with the insane claims that are written on the side of a bottle of oil from some of the off the shelf oils.    What has surprised me and I was already finding this out before I bought my truck with the GDI engine, that this newer fancy technology that seemingly would suggest better fuel economy/emissions with this high pressure spray of fuel is not in reality kind at all to the engine or at least the oils life. Yet they insist on claiming long OCI with this technology just like they did with the port or similar type fuel injection systems when in reality its a step back in oil life to have a GDI system.    I think the mistake your making Grumpy is that your not sending your samples to Blackstone and getting the feel good glowing report that you can run it another 1000 or more miles and then send another sample where they say run it yet another 1000 miles and on and on it goes until your sending in something that looks a lot like road tar and then they may suggest you change your oil within the next 1000 miles 😆

      I am guessing that engines of that design back then had a better ability to be abused and survive longer than a new design engine with the long timing chain and the overhead cams and phasers etc. But I would never guess that an engine could go that far and not fail spectacularly or at least die a slow death.
