Question about rear license plate lamps.

On my 2021 AT4, every bulb in the truck is LED and clear ones are white light except for the license plate ones. Was this an oversight or done for a reason? I did replace these on my 2016 with white LEDs. The only reason I can think of it somehow causes weird reflections in the tailgate cam due to LEDs different output characteristics. It definitly looks out of place. Thoughs?

To me I think GM is just using up stock of bulbs.  The light didn't make any difference in my rear cam when I changed them out to LED.  Plus the old bulbs are still less expensive and when you sell millions of trucks that adds up to the total cost.

Same on my 2020 3500HD. Looked off with everything being LED, except for the license plate bulbs. I switched about 2 months ago to LED from Diode Dynamics. They look good and don’t interfere with my rear camera. https://www.diodedynamics.com

Switched to LED and no issues.

For those who switched, did you go with 5000K or 6000K bulb?

So are we making the plate lights brighter? Back in the day (the seventies) I wanted that bulb dim while I did the run and evading on the Jersey back roads. Those speeding tickets points were murder.

 No, we are just matching the lights. All others on vehicle are LED and whitish blue while the plate bulbs are incandescent and yellowish. Just looks out of place.

Question, tight area to get to bulbs. Is it a twist out base? Clockwise or counter. I know its a wedge bulb once I get the base out.

+1 - I also put those sequential diode dynamics flare lights in - what a difference.

Nice. I did the same thing except went with boost auto parts sequential smoked and color matched the fenders. Changed it all in one shot.
