2022 Sierra Limited - Dash Squeaking Under 1000 Miles

I live in Wisconsin but two weeks ago drove down to the St Louis area to buy a new 2022 Sierra Limited SLT 4x4 with the 5.3 from a dealer that had good availability and pricing. 200 miles into the 400 mile drive home I started hearing a styrofoam like squeaking noise coming from the lower dash trans tunnel area. It occurred when on roads that were anything but perfectly smooth.  It will ride quietly over perfectly smooth roads. The noise is not tied to ground speed, engine speed, etc. 

 

Since then I drove to Michigan to visit family for the holidays for a couple weeks and it made the squeaking noise the whole 420 miles there (loud enough to hear over the radio at low/medium volume). I dropped the truck at a dealer nearby and am going on business day four of them attempting to find the issue. I found the forum post stating a possible heat shield rubbing issue with the transmission harness but the dealer is claiming that wasn't it. Unfortunately the issue seems intermittent it wasn't nearly as bad when I drove the 20mins to the dealer to drop it off the day after the long drive (making it harder to diagnose). Thankfully the dealer has confirmed that they can hear it and they are attempting to resolve it.

 

Has anyone else had a similar issues and possibly have another idea of something I can have the dealer check? I think they're doing what they can but it's incredibly frustrating that a truck I've had two weeks has been in the shop already for half that time. Fingers crossed I don't have to listen to it the whole way back home and start over with another dealer in Wisconsin.

Thought I'd throw an update out on this. First dealer had it for five days and thought they fixed it but didn't know what was done to eliminate the sound. Well, hit some rough roads again and the sound is back in full force. Going to another dealer on Monday.

My dash was squeaking last year and the dealership had to re-route one of the main harnesses behind the dash.  They also put loctite on many of the bolts because they have tendency to come undone. The other thing they did was re-route a transmission harness along the console area. My dash has been very quiet since then.

Thank you for the reply! I'm going to share this with the dealer and hopefully that helps them isolate it.

So, got the truck back from the dealer with no resolution.

 

Dealer called and said they couldn't replicate the issue and I know they were driving it because they put 200 miles on it and gave it back to me with an empty tank of gas (while I refilled the loaner because they told me I needed to).  The resolution they stated was that they would call me back and look at it again in a month when they can get the truck in the bodyshop to address a panel alignment issue with the front bumper. 

 

Then it gets ridiculous. Less than 100 yards from the dealership the noise starts and is as loud as it has ever been. I turn right around and go back to the service writer and he rode along and confirmed that the noise was there, wasn't normal and didn't know how the two techs that drove it could have missed it. 

 

Still then, they say I need to take the truck back home and that they would do more research. To top it all off, I get gas at a gas pump with a screen on it after I leave and it plays an ad for "GMC Certified Professional Service" which I thought was more than a bit ironic. 

 

At this point I want to let the dealer have another stab at it as if they truly couldn't replicate the issue for some reason I don't want to hold that against them. I get it, this stuff can be hard to chase down. I just thought that buying a new vehicle meant it would be relatively flawless for at least a little while. At least that is how it worked with my two Toyota 4Runners. 

 

I hope GM sees this and reaches out. I'm a young guy and have a lot of new vehicle purchases left in my lifetime and I'm starting to rethink my purchasing decisions.

Thought I would close this off with a win for a change.

 

Third dealership I take it to looks at the wiring harness above the transmission first like I asked. They find that the transmission vent hose is routed under the wiring harness causing the harness to rub. They corrected the routing and zip tied the harness and the issue was resolved in less that 45 mins. This same feedback was given to the other two dealers based on a post on this forum and they ignored it. 

 

I'll be a customer for as long as I own that truck with the third dealership from this experience alone. I guess the message to others is that don't be surprised if the first one or two dealers you have look at an issue ignore your feedback and keep searching for a place that will.

Very glad you got your issue resolved.  It seems like very few dealers understand how they need to run their operations to earn loyalty.

I'd really encourage asking them about it because it was night and day difference with mine. What was odd is it was completely dependent on road type for me. In Wisconsin, most roads used to be concrete and have blacktop over broken down concrete (at least the ones I drive on) and it squeaks like in the video. Mildly rough blacktop roads in Michigan it was barely noticeable.

I’ve noticed there isn’t any forums labeled to include 2022 Denali Limited truck like the one I just bought.  I guess we don’t exist.

Dude chill, the truck is the same as the previous years. It is not going to warrant it's own tab. It isn't a brand new gen truck.

Have a refreshed Silverado and this is the EXACT same squeak I am getting.  Took it to the dealer and they couldn't find/fix it.  Will use this video/advice when I take it back.  Thanks!

      What’s missing in all this is patience and investment in the future. Buy a 170K starter home. Ten years later sell it invest in a more expensive home. Eventually you’ll have a 600K home and pay starter home payments. Buy a starter car. Maintain it well. Save the payments after it’s payed for then buy an expensive car if you desire. Buy a tumbler make your own coffee, pack your lunch. Cook your own dinner. Most importantly take care of your car.

      People mislead themselves. Statistics are highly useful indicators.   Here's the tie-in to this thread. If an oil sample tests shows a wear indicator of 7 using cheaper ACDelco oil, and a wear indicator of 2 (lower = less wear) using a particular brand of Mobil oil, and wear has a linear relationship with engine lifespan, anyone could assume that Mobil is reducing wear by more than 50% (let's just say a 200% reduction for you red state people trying hard to do math) which leads to increasing engine life by 2x. Perhaps, in a vacuum, by itself, when dreamed by AI.   Yeah?! That's what the statistic is saying, isn't it?   No, it isn't. It didn't come out and say engine life is doubled. That's a very bad assumption, and a case of severe myopia by assuming something potentially untrue about the only data point in focus.   Average cost of a new car is 50k. You bet it is.   The median cost of a new car is more like 35k. Expensive cars are skewing the perception that "average" now means a $50k price of entry for a very average automobile. And that's not true. People who don't understand statistics twist the living heck out of them to mean all sorts of things they don't actually mean.   "Average" new car payment is $1000/month. Yep, it is. And in that number are all the $35k new car buyers who bring significant equity, and the $25k new car buyers who finance the car for a month just to get a rebate, and then pay it off. Know what isn't in that number? All the payments made by people who don't finance a car.   Picking one's own data point (don't have a car payment, never paid $50k for a new vehicle, my house cost $170k, I afforded a middle class lifestyle on $4.50/hr) is just a data point. Just like earning $25/hr in an area where the median home price is almost $1 Million is a data point. In fact, it's a lot of data points given that 80% of the US population lives in/around major cities. They're not idiots; the vast majority of them do it to make a living because that's where the big money is.   The highs have become higher, lows have become lower, and how your personal mileage varies is not truth for an entire country. At the same time you can't NOT acknowledge the data. While it doesn't paint YOUR personal picture, it certainly tints the reality that you also live in, as does your single data point.

      Glad you had success with it. I did as well, but about 5-6 months later it returned. Tried again, same result. This was after the dealer made several attempts and never even got it to slow down.
