duckcommander Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 My 2018 GMC Sierra doesn’t stop as good I think it should. My 15 Silverado stoped better. I’ve tried better pads didn’t help. I installed power stop kit on all 4 corners and no improvement. I had it to the dealership they just blew me off. I’ve checked the vacuum pump output lowest it falls in 9 inches of vacuum. My next thing is do any of the techs on here know what the brake psi output is supposed to be.
steelerdude15 Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 Have you had the brake booster recall completed? Here is a link to GM’s website to check for recalls: https://experience.gm.com/ownercenter/recalls
CamGTP Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 I'm sure you could test all this and be pretty accurate. I did a little looking and found somewhere that said the stopping distance at around 60mph was in the low 130's for feet distance. You could find a rural area or dead end road to do this on. Mark the ground where you start to brake with a cone or something and measure out to 120, 130 and 140 feet, slam on the brakes and see where you land. If you are within the 120-130ish foot range, it's stopping as it should. Maybe double check those numbers with Motortrend, Edmunds etc etc to see what they tested at.
silveradosid Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 depending on the system most hydraulic brake systems work between 1200 to 1500 psi
duckcommander Posted January 28, 2022 Author Posted January 28, 2022 There are no recalls for my truck. When I was first checking the vacuum I also looked at the brake pressure and it was 2500 to 3000 psi the first couple of pumps. I have not been able to it to that level again and it never goes above 1500 on a very hard stop.
