I see what part your talking about.  Is the original valley cover design also sometimes at fault for oil consumption?  I had just heard of the PCV Valve or the Piston fault.  The piston issue is the bottom ring ends up getting jammed up and the oil scavenging doesn't do good once it gets stuck.

Sort of, from what I remember it reroutes how the crankcase is ventilated or something like that. I would have to look it up again

Thanks again for your great input.

Doing more research I found where you can get the hose with the fixed orifice already attached so just replace old hose and old pcv valve with this hose and done.  Is what I am doing.  Will update when I get it installed Tuesday.  Seems a good route to go for those that already have a good valve cover that want to do away with the junk rattle type pcv valve.  GM Genuine Parts 12574660

great info! hope it cures the problem. PCV systems can cause a myraid of problems and are often overlooked when diagnosing. My girl had a 83 Nissan sentra that had a preformed pcv hose and when that failed I replaced it with regular hose, after that the car ran better but would smoke like a mosquito fogger on start up. I did the valve seals twice and the head gasket and it still smoked, replacing that hose with the factory 1 cured it

Yeah you know what's interesting is I was thinking of just replacing the old dried up hose with one that I just cut to fit but then I feel that the certain diameter inside does have something to do with the vacuum pressure and could for sure effect the overall system.  So am just going to stick with the factory size.

So just an update to all that would like to know.  I ended up getting the hose that came with the fixed orifice valve which replaced my hose that connected to a ball type pvc valve(GM Genuine Parts 12574660).  Prior to replacing it I was going through a good 1qt of oil every 1500 miles.  Since then I have put on about 1800 miles and the oil level is the same.  So for those out there with high oil consumption and you have the ball type pcv valve(rattles when you shake it) change it over to fixed and it may solve your high oil consumption issue.  '
