Hello everyone,

I have a 2017 Silverado 1500 LT Z71 with a leveling kit and 33x12 wheels.

So I've been dealing with the problem of my truck shutting off when parallel parking and for the first time it shut off while making a right turn after a stop. Sometimes I'll start my truck and the problem will happen. In each of these times the "service stabilitrak" message comes on and my steering wheel flings to center itself and my truck shuts off. It has always started right back up after a few minutes. I also have a steering assist is reduced message but my steering has been feeling perfectly fine. I've been researching this problem for a while now and so far I have:

checked the ground under the dash (G218) and there was no insulation present there ( i believe GM fixed this problem).

I cleaned the ground behind the passenger wheel and even went as far as to change the entire negative cable.

My ABS wiring was messed up from rubbing on the control arm which i fixed as well and no longer rubs.

Even though i dont have a check engine light on i ran a scan and the code P10E4 came up as a possible issue, but after work i ran the scan again and the code disappeared without clearing it or anything.

If anyone has some type of advice or direction it would be greatly appreciated!

I am having the exact same issue at the moment! It started about 2-3 weeks ago and is happening more and more often. I’ve checked all the grounds as well and haven’t come up with anything.

Even just a week after I bought my new 2017 Silverado 3500 WT I began having those problems and I pulled the fuses for ABS and traction control. I know that seems weird and I’m not saying you should do this but I grew up racing and never liked those features anyways. I tow a lot and this forced me to get a aftermarket trailer brake controller. This actually works much better than the stock one. Happier all around and I never had to deal with the dealership hassle that I read so many people have had to deal with over the years. Good luck, it is a GM issue that maybe or maybe not they can fix for you.

Search the forums for "PIT5405".  This instruction covers the G218 ground but also other points to check (like starter connection, battery cables, etc).

look into your Evap system, sometimes raw fuel gets into the system (sometime when trying to top off the fuel tank) and floods the intake, especially when turning, and at low RPMs stalls the engine, it happens to my son's Ram truck w/Hemi

I have same problem 2017 AT 6.2

shut off  while driving once  !!! Bot truck new just started this winter 55k
checked all the grounds neg battery cable etcetc all the known causes

Dealer had truck for 2 days could not find issue and truck never shut  off when they had  it

in my case only happened in very cold weather but truck fully warmed up

when it shuts off cranks and fires but shuts off immediately

let it sit for 10-15 minutes starts and runs fine ??
when dealer had it it showed my low pressure fuel pump was getting weak intermiitently

they “ think “ the pump getting hot and pressure drops truck shuts off

when let sit  for a while pump cools then it starts ???

Thats odd because my truck only does this when the weather is warmer out. This happened a few times last summer but the problem went away once i cleaned the ground behind the passenger wheel. All through the winter it was fine up until we had a few nicer days then the problem came back

So i finally decided to take my truck into the dealer and they checked it out and told me the software was very outdated on a lot of things...cant remember what specifically, but i get my truck back tomorrow and will come back to you guys if the problem is still there.

What software ECM or BCM would be good  to know

Voltage drop both battery cables, anything over half volt and they should be replaced. An extremely common problem on those trucks. We change a lot of them at work.

2017 Silverado

My truck is trying to kill me!!!

Shuts off when turning at low speeds...like when turning left at busy intersection. I reported issue to transportation board of Canada because GM wont do sh*t.

"Like a Rock" Yes, like a rock indeed, I guess that means it sinks your bank account like one!!!

160000 kms or 100000 mi:

Transmission rebult...$7400.00

AC condenser leaking - bad wield  $1200.00

Crazy electrical problem - truck shuts off completely..dead... engine, radio all electrical. $ ???? Chasing this one myself

electrician by trade.

No recalls here in Canada for any of these issues... got to love GM...like a rock they said...

GM is aware of all of these problems because they have mostly been recalled in US but here in Canada we are too nice.

Sorry to bother you, but my truck that I bought new from you is a piece of SH*T

    • There are probably a few threads talking about fuel mileage but this one seemed to fit the stats I have seen based on my typical local driven route but with different outcomes based on different seasons/temperatures. I have a few hundred pounds of items that consistently ride on the truck at all times such as a bak flip cover, rubber bed mat, tools and extra fuel so I would be something over 8100 lb without me in the truck. All these examples are based on a 100 mile round trip to a town plus running around town so maybe 110 to 120 miles in total for a trip. Using regular fuel and I assume it always has some ethanol in it but don't know the percentage they blend in. Also speed wise I am going at 62 mph and non aggressive driving although less speed yet if its crappy winter condition roads. I am going by an initial reset of the computer generated fuel use numbers averaged over a couple of thousand miles or so for each weather/season so they may be more optimistic then actual hand calculated numbers. Basically this is painting a picture of doing the same drive but seasonal conditions and temperature being the major variable to the end result. Oh and although I am in Alberta Canada, I am converting it to miles per US gallon so there is no confusion.    So winter time it gets cold here, no real surprise there and the roads can be clear at times but also often have packed rough snow or are are driving through loose snow ( they do a poor job of plowing the highways ) and yes this includes the extra idle engine time due to trying not to freeze ones butt off. 12.7 mpg is what I was getting during the winter months on average.    Then during the spring when it was around the freezing point and the highways are clear of snow, I was getting around 14.25 mpg.   Summer time, I have been getting around 15.15 on average but certainly some of the trips showed quite a bit better fuel mileage, so much depended on how much or little I had driven around town and number of engine restarts after sitting for a while at each location. But stating a best fuel mileage trip to town pretending that is what the truck gets on average is fooling ones self for sure !.      As I said in a different post, I had driven a 645 mile trip over a couple of days stint to a different destination then these other daily to town examples above, and was done during the summer with nice weather and not bucking a head wind, also keeping at 62 mph and its a rolling landscape type highway drive ( this isn't southern Alberta or Saskatchewan flat lands ) Hand calculated fuel mileage in this case though and it came out to 17.65
    • On my wife's 2020 Blazer (~69000 miles), we started to notice the brakes pulsating at faster speeds. Typically around town you don't notice anything, but highway/interstate driving you will notice it. I decided to pull of the front tires and look at the brakes. I figured with the milage, the pads should be wearing out to their life span, but they actually looked decent. Still with "meat" on them. One pad has a ridge wearing in it, and that same rotor is showing the ridge too. That's not the concerning part...the other rotor appears to have a raised bump on it!  The picture make it look like a pimple! Very odd and strange! NOTE: These are the factory brakes and rotors.   I'm attaching pictures of the front brakes and what they look like ate ~69000 miles.
