I have a service brake pad monitor error showing up on startup. It is not covered under a recall. When I go to the info page it shows "brake pad installed" for front and rear and both are greyed out. So it isn't that it is detecting how much life is left but it isn't actually detecting that I have brake pads installed.

Is there anything I should look at?

Are the sensors making contact with the rotor?  Pull a wheel and check the pad thickness and the sensors out.

Otherwise, needs to be scanned for codes.

This occurred on my truck too. I pulled the wheels and the sensor is cracked. Very frustrating. I turned off the brake life monitor because I couldn't justify doing a brake job with such low mileage. Not very impressed...

2020 gmc Sierra 2.7l bought with 9k miles on it. Now with 46k miles. Same exact issue. Installed new brake pads and rotors on rear. Pistons wouldn’t fully compress. Turned in with Allen key. Replace all but had to put back on outer rear pads. Replaced sensor on driver rear pad sensor and what do ya know! Still system monitor fault. After having ball joint go out while driving and left steering knuckle 33k miles  almost crashing and this now, plus other stuff. What a waste of 46 grand on a new truck.

Has anyone learned of a solution to this issue?

My Denali was showing al the same warnings and acting the same way. It happens because the sensor and the monitor system are CRAP and no where accurate.  My levels were showing something like 65% front and 78% rep pad life remaining.  Those messages popped up as well as the brake monitor system disabled message.  End result was new pads and rotors all around about 2 weeks later.  They believe the messages were popping up due to the sensors being worn through and giving inaccurate readings.  I saw my old parts, they were some of the worst pads I've ever had on a vehicle.  the rotors were pretty scored up on the inside too, they would have been beyond spec if they were to machine them.

Wouldn't allow the real word for CRAP
