I just made it to my first oil change in my 2022 refresh Trailboss with a 2.7ho. I love this engine! I drive all sorts of different full-size trucks including ford 5.0’s and Chevy 5.3’s. This engine is equivalent to a 5.3 in most respects, anyways the big unknown is how long will these last. Who has the most miles on one? Have you had any real issues?

The 2.7 group on Facebook, a couple people broke the 100,000mi marker with what sounded like regular maintenance.

awesome news, doesn't appear to be any flies on it so far

also agree, I'm at nearly 5000 kms on my 22 h.o. and in love with this motor, smiles per miles are pretty good

I had an epiphany the other day about it and how to describe it to others...

If the 5.3 and the 3.0 had a baby this would be it, it's a perfect blend of the performance and economy of both those motors, while weighing a lot less than either and at the low end of maintenance costs.

Would you rather 8 666cc naturally aspirated short stroke cylinders that lose 3% power every 1000' elevation or 4 680cc boosted to 22 psi long stroke cylinders that lose no power at elevation? One of these things is more 'trucky' than the other.😉

It's definitely a 21st century option and the easy choice over the 5.3 now imo. Hard to believe it's the new base motor, I would have payed a couple k to option it over the 5.3.😂

we're definitely going to see how it lasts here in Alberta with a hunting/fishing/camping family and some working remote miles as well

Yup, I agree. I drive 5.3’s and 5.0’s 1500 trucks everyday and they don’t have anything on the 2.7HO. I drove the 3.0 diesel and honestly didn’t like it that much. I think people automatically think a diesel is a better tow truck which is not the case either. The 2.7 has more horsepower and only 30ft lbs less torque so you are dead on about it being in between those two In Performance. Honestly all three are close and all 3 kick my 5.0 Ford F-150 and even my old 1993 7.3 diesel’s butts in every respect. Folks are super biased because it’s a 4 banger. It also handles in a more balanced way since the weight distribution is different. I’m in Northern North Dakota and live on a remote farm so will get plenty of chances to test it in 20-40 below zero and deep snow I guarantee you lol. I’m not on Facebook so thanks for that info! It’s good news. I’m friends with a couple Chevy mechanics and they both switched to 2.7’s for their new trucks. They tell me they are way more reliable than the v-8’s. Honestly it’s the only reason I even considered it, glad I did. Of course the proof is in the pudding and am looking forward to hearing from folks with 150-200k trouble free miles.

Yes sir, can't agree more. I've had 5 GM trucks so far with the 5.3 Vortec, 5.3 Ecotec and now the 2.7HO. I had lifter failure on 2007 Vortec; after the warranty was past due, of course. The Ecotec is a good engine, but the acceleration is sluggish, the Vortec did better. But now, with this new turbo 4 banger, the torque is unreal, plenty of power; and sips gas like a small car engine.  I read their only issue is carbon build up in the exhaust valve caused by the direct injection. It might be good to fuel up with Super every once in a while to minimize buildup. The valve lifters needed for cylinder deactivation have been improved, but this is where it will fail in the long run. It's a big job, but it's 50% cheaper on a L4 vs V8. But this should happen at about 200K miles. Then the Turbo will follow, but no ICE engine will last forever. For that, you have to go electric.  😜

My 24 has almost 15,000 on it now. Super happy with it. Coming from an 06 and a 2015 both wit 5.3's I actually like it better. Only complaint hate the sound of it inside truck. And people always doggin' on me for buying a truck with a 4 cylinder.  Lol. Only time will tell if it will hold up as good as both of my 5.3's did. We'll over a 100,000 on both my 5.3's.

We recently rented a 24 Silverado LT with the 2.7 for a week while on vacation and I was impressed.  Fuel mileage wasn't as good as my 3.0 Duramax, but it had more pep than the diesel, at least in regular drive mode.  The baby max is definitely peppier in Sport mode, but I rarely us it.  It was a good comparison to our Sierra SLT Crew Cab Standard Box as the rental was also a Crew Cab Standard Box. I was actually surprised to get a Standard Box in a rental since it appears to me Short Boxes outnumber Standard by about a 3:1 or maybe even a 4:1 margin.  The rental had 18K miles on it.  My wife also noted it rode a bit better than our SLT, but our SLT is Max Tow.  As impressed as I was with the rental, I love our Sierra SLT.  It's the best truck we've owned by a long shot.

since the question is who has the most miles, i am at 90k miles on my 2020. had to replace the pcv fine oil separator at 60k, it does like to use oil, at 40 percent olm it will be at the bottom of the dipstick. i just change the oil because it will be about 4500k on the oil

Since starting this thread I have put 43k miles on my 22 trailboss custom. I had to have an evap part replaced recently but my extended warranty covered it. This has been my favorite truck to date and will keep it as long as I can.

66,666 miles. Bought the evap pump

on my dime installed it myself when warranty not covering it.
I use a qt in 6000 miles or so.

Runs like a top on 86 octane E15 Maverick.

carrying 720 lbs of sandbags in bed and running snow tires 10 ply Firestone’s year round.
Get 25 mpg consistently at 65-70 up here in Colorado.
trail boss nearly unstoppable.
Amsoil being out to test in the AT at this mileage.

Our 2019 is currently sitting at 98k miles and climbing; all I've done is routine maintenance and spark plugs. Still drives great. I'm thinking I might need to throw some rear shocks on it, as I've done a LOT of towing.

I was looking around online for the 100k service and it led me to this thread 😆

I have 120k on my 2020 2.7. I’m starting to change the oil every 4,000 miles and the trans every 30k. Mines never been to the dealer for a recall, runs just as it did off the lot.

13,481 trouble free miles on my Silverado. Absolutely love the truck and very impressed with the fuel economy.
