I went to get into my truck yesterday and the button on the handle wouldn't unlock the truck. My fob was in my pocket and even tried all doors but nothing. I unlocked it with the fob and tried all doors and the buttons on them will lock the doors but not unlock them.

Any suggestions?

1) Remote battery may be weak

2) Button is broken

3) Antenna in door not reading remote

That's where I'd start looking.  Title and original post aren't specifying if this is a door or doors issue.  Have you tried both (or possibly all 4 if equipped) doors?

yep same result with all 4 doors. The buttons will lock but not unlock the doors. I think the the fob battery is fine, it will work from pretty long way from the truck.

Check and see if the user profile has been changed. It sounds like the system is operational just a setting in the infotainment system has been changed. There is a setting that disables the door unlock button but will allow the door button to lock the door. I believe this setting can be associated with user profile.

You are right! Checked the settings and the passive unlock decided to switch itself off.

Thanks for the info!

If you actually cared about customer satisfaction, the A with an arrow button that kills my engine would stay off until turned back on. That thing is the worst thing about my Sierra.

I couldn’t agree more. That button and the engine stop and having to push it after you start the truck every time is the most stupid engineering piece since the ejection seat on a helicopter.

Well, am I ever glad I saw this thread.

Thanks @Truck RamRod !!

Mine quit doing the passive unlock the last week of August.  Passive lock still worked.   Attempting passive unlock and there would be a sound from under the hood, but doors wouldn't unlock.

If truck was locked, tailgate unlock/open didn't work either.

Same week the truck received / installed 4 OTA updates.

I never thought to check to see if maybe a setting was changed....

Asked about it on this forum (instead of searching) and go no responses.

Because of thread I went and checked.

Sure enough, passive unlock was turned off.

I'm now guessing that one of the updates changed the setting back to a default.

Anyway, it works now!

Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on your FOB at the same time. This will reset the keyless entry on your door.

For months I have been trying to find the answer to this question and everyone just kept saying oh you just turned the passive unlock setting off even though that was the first thing I checked. Your solution worked right away, thank you for finally posting the actual answer

If you carry your fob in your back pocket it is pressing both the lock and unlock buttons at the same time when you sit down and that is what's changing your door locks. Just press lock and unlock button at the same time and hold them and it will correct itself.
