Where does the feed for things like the speed limit display or the clock come from?  Is it through the onboard Wi-Fi , OnStar, or some other source?

It's in the preprogrammed navigation software for pre-refrshed. 2022 refresh it's in the Google maps and only will show with an onstar data subscription

It is a 22 Limited. Have never activated the navigation as I use Apple Car Play with Apple Maps.

If you have it showing in the dash then you navigation is working in the background. Even if you don't use it. It's from the data stored in the truck, not constant data over air and will not be updated without getting the navigation update from the dealer. In my 17 Camaro I noticed the speed indicator was quite outdated on newer roads.

And fwiw, like every other other navigation database, there are places where the speed limit signs are different than the info the truck displays from the database.

So that little SD card contains all the speed limits in the US?

What about the feed for the clock?  It is on-line as it updates itself when I cross time zones.

Was just wondering if I would loose them if I was to dump OnStar and the onboard Wi-Fi.

The time should use the over the air data and i believe it would update itself without a data plan, not totally sure about that though.
