Hey all,

just wanted to add my experience with a muffler delete on my 5.3. Went with the MBRP pipe add in. For 100 bucks I was just going to see what it sounded like and get a magnaflow installed in its place. So I cut that muffler out, filed down the burs and put the pipe on and clamped it down.

I was actually surprised how relatively good it sounded without being obnoxiously loud. The cold start is loud but not louder than either of my 6th gen 6.2L camaros. And after that cold start programming calms down its a nice rumble and what I would call low medium volume. On the road, 25% radio volume masks the exhaust at normal acceleration. When you put some throttle down, it wakes up a bit and sounds really good coming from the cab but still isn't very loud. I have experienced no drone in the cab either.

My recommendation for those wishing and willing to spend money on an aftermarket catback and are planning to cut up your stock exhaust anyway would be to just try a muffler delete first. For basically no cost, its worth trying.

Ill try to get some vids here in a bit

I routinely mention the same. Some people think they have to spend mucho bucks on mail order. Reminds me of people insisting on name brand clothes and Starbucks. I think of them while sipping home made coffee on my deck. While there’re dealing with traffic in Houston Texas.

If you don't spend $1,000 you're not doing it right in some peoples mind.

Did you remove the flapper valve too? Seems like all these $100-ish delete pipes are too short, I wonder if there’s anything special about them vs going to a local shop and have them weld a pipe in. 🤔

No I left the flapper in. I was slightly worried about drone so I didn't want to remove it before hearing it with it still in place. Also, I wanted to be able to slip in another muffler if I didn't like it without cutting to much of my stock pipe away yet. But you are right, if you wanted to remove the flapper you would need to have a longer connector pipe. If you have good access to a shop to weld a pipe in there's no reason really to not to.

I used the Magnaflow pipe on my 6.2 and it only had a single flapper whereas some have 2. I'm not sure why. I removed the flapper and there was enough pipe with some wiggling to get the clamps on. I just cut super tight on the back of the stock muffler and right at the edge of the flapper. It's just a pre-bent do it yourselfer kit vs taking it to a shop.

I wouldn't know since I chopped it off the 3rd day I owned it!

How did the muffler delete effect fuel economy?

No observable difference.

I've read mixed outcome with muffler delete. The sound is good but the drone in the cab is either suck it up and get use to it or I can't handle it and do a complete cat-back system.

Probably because those with drone just cut the pipe off at the muffler and did a turndown, therefore tremendous drone. I don't have any at all since my pipes continue out through the rear OEM pipes with the mesh "resonators".
