Gen5DIY DRL Relocation Harness - LED Headlights - LED Marker/Turn Signals - Install video

Over the past few weeks I have installed some Lasfit LED's on the front end of my truck. Notably the low beams, high beams, marker lights and turn signals. However, I was concerned that with the DRL function on these trucks being the low beam, this would make the LED's life shorter, because they would be burning during the daytime (as the DRL). So Gen5DIY makes a harness to fix that. I purchased this harness second hand off a forum member and it's totally worth it. It relocates the DRL function on factory halogen equipped trucks (WT and Custom Trims) and it makes it the marker/turn signals. So instead of your low beam burning during the day, it's now the marker lamps. Auto headlight function remains the same and will engage the low beams when the sensor deems necessary. I think it's a subtle modification, and pricey at that. But with the price of LED bulbs, I think it's cheap insurance.

Check out the install video here. As well as my LED headlight and marker/turn signal bulb installs below. Enjoy and thanks for watching. Cheers.

Or you just flick the headlight switch to off when you start it and it turns off the DRLs and auto headlights.

Maybe if it was $35 and not $350 for the part!!!!

Yes, it's an expensive harness. But with the price of LED bulbs, I think it's worth it to save your LED's from burning out prematurely. I was lucky enough to get the harness for $150 off a forum member. I was flipping my switch to the off position every time I drove it, but that gets old fast.

Price of LED bulbs? What did you buy? I paid like $35-$40 a pair for LASFIT highs and lows which are highly rated. That's a LOT of bulb replacements for the cost of a $350 harness! I think WAMS was offering a plug in module to reprogram the BCM to use running lights vs lows for DRL's and I'm pretty sure it was less than that harness! Plus you had the option of adding or changing other options in the BCM.

The Lasfit low beams i have run about $180 a pair on Amazon.

Ā

WAMS custom BCM programming runs starts at $300...so not far off from the gen5diy harness.

I know it's not a cheap solution, and i probably wouldn't have bought the harness if I wasn't able to get the deal i got on a used one (only paid $150 for it). But I like making how to videos...so that's where we are.

Actually I looked last night and the programmer and that's $300 WITHOUT programming. You have to buy programming that cost ANOTHER $300! I thought it was originally $300 for the programmer and programming. It does give you the option to get rid of the speed limiter which would be a good deal.

That's why I ordered mine with the $390 Safety Confidence package which included the color 4.2 info center, radio controls on the steering wheel, forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking and front pedestrian braking. Too bad it didn't include a leather wrapped wheel. I swapped that in myself. Now if only someone would come up with a way to make the heat function work in the wheel!

Yea, my boss bought this truck. I tried to talk him into an LT trim for a little more money, I think my company paid 47k after all was said and done for this truck, and an LT would have been like 50k. Oh well.

Ā

I also am trying to figure out how to activate the heat function on my "upgraded" leather wrapped wheel. I installed a heated wheel into my 2019 Canyon and that involved swapping the coil spring harness and the new heated wheel, and everything literally plugged right in. BUT there was an open harness under the dash that the new coil spring utilized that was specifically for heated steering wheels.

Ā

I don't think it's so easy on the Silverado's, I've looked under the dash for an open harness, but no such luck. If you figure something out, send me a message and let me know.
