So after some looking around it appears there aren’t any aftermarket front gear sets for the new silverados? I have 19 trailboss lt that I just put 295/70R18 on and it feels completely gutless now. I wanted to change the gearing to something like 4.10s, does anyone know if there is anything available for these trucks?

 

If gears aren’t available does anyone have any experience with any of the tuners out there helping?

The 3.0 diesels offer 3:72 gears with the Max Tow package, so those should be available for your trail boss? You probably have the standard 3:23's currently and those with taller/heavy tires probably are not to snappy.

 

Tuning the 3:73's is something that has to be addressed to accommodate the transmission and other rpm based functions of the ECU. Not sure if anyone has accomplished this yet?

His 2019 truck can be tuned with HP Tuners, pretty sure it can change the gear ratio in the calibration.

 

It's a spendy thing to do for tuning though.

This is almost silly. 

 

If you have stock gear ratios then you have 3.23's.  By going with a 295/70/18 tire, you increased marginally to a 34.26" diameter tire which would only require a 3.35 ( an extremely small change of .12) gear swap to be back to stock performance.  If the performance of your vehicle dropped as significantly as you say above because of a 1.26" increase in tire diameter, then you need to get your vehicle checked out for engine issues or you bought some really crappy/heavy wheels and tires. 

 

Then again, there is also the potential for a slight exaggeration here in performance degradation...maybe?

 

To answer your question, there are very limited available options for front and rear gear-set swaps on the T1 platform.  As they become older and cheaper to find, people will start modifying them more heavily and the aftermarket will fill in the voids where needed.  Give it time, various sized gear sets will become prevalent in the future, just not sure how distant.

Gutless is an exaggeration I’ll admit. I guess my biggest issue right now is when in sand or softer dirt it doesn’t have the get up and go I would like. The taller/wider tires do help with that some in the sand but I really have to get the rpm’s up pretty high to get that same speed. 
 

I had looked at the hp flashpaq but being in California it seems like that’s a no go for the time being. I’m just trying to figure out a way to get more power with the bigger tires. Also I’m running falken at3 on method 305s. So there is a substantial weight difference there as well. I just thought maybe regearing would be simpler than it apparently it is.

I actually have the 3.42 stock gear (trail boss)

 

I haven’t upgraded tires yet, was doing research to make sure this would not be an issue, given your explanation it makes sense.

Are you certain that you have 3.42's on your TB?

 

I know in the past you could get the 3.42's in a Custom trim truck with the smaller 6 speed transmission, but I'm pretty sure the only way to get the 3.42 9.76" axle with the 8 or 10 speed is to get the max trailering PKG, and that is not available with the TB or AT4 last I checked.   

Do you have a window sticker or build sheet?  Yours would be the first TB I have seen or heard of with the 3.42's if that's the case.

On the 2.7T the only gearing is the 3.42, Trail Boss or not.

 

If its a V8 Trail Boss its 3.23 on the 8 and 10 speeds.  If its 3.42 on a Trail Boss it would have only been on the Custom Trail Boss with the 6 speed and the 4.3 or the 5.3 AFM engine which would have been 2019-2021.

Assuming you haven't hit his window sticker yet, 2.7T gets the 3.42.

 

The only Trail Boss otherwise that would have 3.42 would have been the Custom trim with the 4.3/6 speed or the 5.3/6 speed, 2019-2021.

You would need to go from a 3.23 rear gear to a 3.33 rear gear which would be so small of a change that it might as well be non existent.  If staying with the same load range tire, going to a 275/65-20 would feel no different and there would be no need to change gearing.
