What is this under the dash?

Anyone have a clue of what this checkered thing is under the dash next to the OBD port? The wiring leads up to a smaller box and i haven't gone beyond that. I had another in-line box with the OBD2 port that i found previously that seemed to be a dealer tracking device, but i've since removed that after last visit and have no longer had any check engine lights

Looks like part of the tracking system. I would chunk it.

It's not oem.

Did you buy the truck used? It is a vehicle tracker used on fleet or company vehicles. Most likely it wasn't working without the module plugged into it.

Truck was bought brand new. Maybe tracker was from trucking in route?

Thank you and good find. I wonder if the dealer used it until truck was fully paid and forgot to take it off? Or maybe it was an option and just never passed on? I might have to look more into it and see if i can get it to work for me. Doesn't seem like a bad thing to have if it works.

Most likely. Usually that is like a buy here pay here lot thing but who knows anymore in this day in age. People will steal anything nowadays and was maybe just extra insurance for them. Hard to say honestly. If it was mine I would call or take into dealer and ask them point blank like what is this!
