My understanding is that not all dealers will do trades with each other. They both have to consent to the trade.

When my youngest son was selling Chevys I trailered an Equinox from MI to St Louis and hauled back a Colorado for a deal they had. Its all about the deal.

I agree. Once bought a car that was in high-demand and the dealer told me he had to give the other dealership TWO cars then they'd send the car I wanted over.

I agree no dealer would want an undesirable trade, that would be ridiculous. This is a smaller population area .. for our whole state.... and dealer trades are the norm for this market segment. While not all local dealers work together at 100% with each other trades do happen on a routine basis here. It allows the dealers that only carry 3-6 of a particular model to an extended inventory.  Plus all the dealers are still feeling from supply chain and "allocation" and still need deals

When I bought my truck, my favorite dealer didn't have anything in stock with higher trim levels. Only a couple LT and lower ones on the lot. Another dealer not too far away had a selection of LTZ and up on the lot. Spending this much money on a truck I had to drive a few and go over them. Yeah, if they can find a dealer that is willing to trade stock, they will but when you find what you want on a lot you have to make the deal right away. They gave me a fair amount on my Tahoe trade in.

My favorite dealer will be handling any warranty issues if they arise. I've bought a few vehicles from them in the past, so they treat me well.

I have bought used and certified in the past. Only used with less the 30k miles or CPO. Then again, I'm a gearhead so I can spot serious collision damage on used ones. Old '11 Tahoe was used, no issues other than the normal high mileage hubs and a MAP sensor at 140k miles. Traded in at 150k miles. My '16 Equinox 3.6 was a CPO bought at 12k miles. It's at 99k miles and zero issues.
