2024 Digital Instrument Cluster Speedo/Tach Location

Recommended Posts

Ok, so every vehicle I have ever driven has had the Speedo on the right and Tach on the left, even previous Chevy’s. Why on earth was GM dumb and put the Speedo on the left and Tach on the right? Anyone know if there is a way to swap the locations and put the Speedo back on the right?

You would think it would be customizable.  but can tell you I have had plenty of speedos on the left,  my shelby is on the left.  With that said most of the digital stuff ive had has the speedo in the center and the tach off to the left or right lately.  my 2022 DIC sucks in many ways,  GMs has always kind of been that way,  so if the 24 it wouldnt surprise me

I feel the same way, and I don't understand why they can't allow a fully digital cluster to swap the gauges... However, I've found myself liking the Heads-Up Display a lot more than I thought I would and don't really look at the speedometer gauge anymore anyway.

Theres a new TFL truck video of the Ford F350 and the Silverado 3500 duallys running the Ike Gauntlet (copyright)

When they get to the instrument section its clear to see that Ford nailed it and Chevy failed it.

The Ford has configurable boost, Def, trailer brake and grade brake and other info along with the other gauges having a numerical value unlike the Chevy 9-19v and C to H on temp. I added the trans temp display to my right side inner circle area, every single gauge should be this way, a graph with a numerical value displayed. All this along with a display that actually shows what gear the truck is in. Somebody at Ford must have actually talked to big truck users instead of the soccer Mom that Chevy consulted.

And why would they give a 140 mph speedo when it is governed to 98 mph.  The sweep is small as it is, and only half is useable is kind of dumb.

All of these extras should be doable from an over-the-air update, but who knows if GM will ever do something like that when they can call it out as a feature on future model years. Best we can hope for is maybe a paid "theme" store where we can download different layouts/options.

All the vehicles Ive ever had,  never had push updates that changed anything like on a phone,  just make bug fixes.  With that said doesnt mean that day isnt coming.  Be careful with saying paid,  before you know it were paying to use our own dashboards.

Every GM vehicle (and thats all I have ever owned) had the speedo on the right and the tach on the left (if it had a tach)

The longer I have this 24 the more I am disappointed in the gauges (or lack of)

When my primary battery crapped out I had no idea since there isnt a serious gauge that will give me an actual voltage.

This would be fine if it was an Equinox or a Traverse and I was a soccer Mom but this is a serious truck with a non serious gauge setup.

As soon as I can spare the $300 I am getting a Scangauge III so I can actually get some info out of this truck.

Never bothered me at all on my 2023.....

I find myself using the digital speedo and the HUD all the time anyways.......heck with the analog stuff.

I agree with SC, the Gauge info is terrible on my '24 HD Duramax. I selected the maximum display info. GM should update the software to give more gauge options, show bar graph as well as an exact digital value.

years back, I found this BM-2 Battery Monitor II, with phone App. Around $35.  Put one on my '24 right after delivery on the primary battery. Can assign a name for each Sensor for each vehicle, when they are set up in the App.

Going to see if I can download the BM-2 App in my Google in the GMC screen, and view this on the dash 13.4".

Also going to add a second BM-2 to the Aux battery as well, to keep an eye on it's health.

Like these so much, put three on each battery in my '73 GMC 25ft. motorhome, '88 Ford Diesel #1950 tractor, '66 Dodge W-300 Power Wagon, '78 Trans-Am.

Will add more info next post.

What happens when you switch from miles per hour to kilometer per hour?
