Buy a 12 volt socket, leave it hang out near glove compartment or keep it inside fuse area. Pin 31 positive, get a good ground

Hey all. I just bought a 2023 Silverado 1500 and I didn’t realize there’s no cigarette lighter outlet for my radar detector. I’ve read that a radar detector can be hardwired. Has anyone here done that? Can you tell me how it is done?  Thank you.

Sign up for the shop manual for your truck at AllDataDIY.  This will give you access to the wiring diagrams.

On two of my trucks, a universal adapter is used to insert pins into the connector, one powers the camera all the time, the other with the ignition on.  Of course, one can tap into the power for the overhead lights in the headliner as well.  Lots of ways to skin that deer.

Many decades ago I tapped into the headliner and inadvertently powered my radar detector with only 5 volts instead of 12, no wonder it never ran right!  LOL

Don’t know about the trucks but there was a service bulletin for the Corvette review camera. Seems some were having issues with the picture breaking up. Bulletin said to first check for a power tap at the mirror and if found to deny warranty service for the mirror. So may want to be cautious when finding a power tap.

Just to update this post - I just hardwired my R3 in my 2025 RST using the cheap amazon spade taps ($10 for 3). I pulled the plastic from around the mirror/camera setup and tapped the wire harness on passenger side. Red goes to purple/black wire, black to black/white wire. The spades just slip into the plastic harness where wires come out. Switched power as well.

As for radar detectors in general - they are not for going 100 mph, they are for when you are going 40 in a 30 and not paying attention. 1 ticket pays for itself, and I am saved several times a month...
