My 2019 LTZ 5.3 with 55k started running 215f. Maybe 212. Seems like over the last month the stat is holding closed about 5 degrees more. Not huge but noticed the fan which used never come on now does after a brief heat soak. Again not huge but figured I’d just replace the stat. This series is a WAY bigger pain than previous models. Looks like the stat is in the lower hose connection which is going to take twice the work.

Thoughts???

Nothing unusual going on here. A 'brief' hot soak drives heat into the water which must pass through the thermostat and past the sending unit. It spikes. Spikes high enough on a hot day and the fans turn on. Fans will also turn on when the AC is on under certain conditions. Will even stay on in stop and go with AC on. I actually use this to my advantage on such days. Did so today in an Interstate construction zone I got caught up in. With the AC off water might reach 220 F. With it on it never gets past 190 F.

Your thermostat on the 5.3 is in the same place it has been since these motors were introduced in 2014. Top hose, motor side of that hose.

Only unusualality is the change….

I need to look again but I saw no housing where the upper hose entered the intake. Thanks GB

Ah the water pump changed with the new body style.

The thermostat is on the lower left side then.

How did you remove the shutters?  Just bow them and pull out?  I have to question how much they improve gas mileage and how much they increase temps in engine and transmission.

Aero packages are a compilation of many things, not just one. By themselves, little, but as part of the package they are pennies that make the dollar.

They don't raise the temperature. They shorten the time it takes to reach temperature.

Check this video out and read down his comments and he give a review on how it worked for him.

Yes, in that picture but the thermostat is in the same place on the V8 truck with the L83 and L86.

I don't buy they don't raise the temp but only shorten the time it takes to reach temp.   The thermostat controls the time to reach temp.  No water flowing the the radiator until the temp is achieved so the shutters have no affect on that.  And from what I tell, they don't open at highway speeds after the temp is reached.   Their sole purpose is the improve aerodynamics.  How much is not known.  Do they increase engine temps?   I can't say.    But is seems likely.
