I had that happen on my 2021 a few time first year but once I quit carrying the key fob in my pocket, has not occurred in 2.5 yrs.  Figured pressure on the button in pocket probably dropped the gate?   I wear the fob on a lanyard around my neck.

I had the tailgate switch replaced in March for TSB. It failed again. This time my tailgate opened while towing. ARGH!!!

The tailgate hits my power switch exactly, and forces the the power winch down while driving!! I could have lost the whole $50,000 trailer...or had a collision. The tailgate switch assembly has no gasket. so water pours in there and shorts out the switch and camera. Why they didn't put any seal there is beyond me. GM will just keep putting in expensive parts but not address the sealing issue. In Canada, there is a safety recall on this, over and above a TSB

Safety Recall N232426400 has all trucks coming in for a new switch. This time, they will seal the handle assembly to prevent water intrusion. Notice when you wash the truck how water pours out the switch?

As with most of these failures, lack of sealant or gasket causes headaches for all.

Going in tomorrow for a new switch, before i go camping. Someone out there will have a serious accident towing something

Did it destroy your tailgate? I really wish there was a way to lockout the tailgate when connected to a trailer.

They installed my tailgate switch again. This time I asked them to leave off covers and bolts holding switch handle in place. With new switch, I removed it to inspect. Just what I thought, the tailgate switch is not weather proof. It’s not potted or properly sealed. Worse, the tailgate handle assembly has no gasket. The camera and light also let in water. So, water pours in the top of Handle assembly, through cam and light

the switch also allows water to pour inside it. GM, you’re asking for trouble here. Designed to fail. Possible lawsuit from tail gate opening and activating my trailer Jack. It actually lifted my back end at a light. The tailgate hits the electric switch perfectly.
as a construction equipment tech that fixes outdoor machines in cold wet weather, I see the flaw here in your design

I added dielectric silicone to the switch as any moisture will short out the card. I siliconed the handle, switch exterior and filled in holes at camera ( the other Constant failure from water)

now, the whole thing is sealed from elements like its supposed to be!!

GM… add seals to these switches and cameras. Use outdoor potted switches of at least dielectric!
You’re spending thousands on cameras and tailgate switches just because of improper sealant.

I have a question for you guys. I have a 2022 GMC Sierra Denali. I pull a boat quite a bit and my friends are accidentally hitting the tailgait drop button below the air conditioner controls. I have been very lucky so far and I have not damaged the gate but I will do big damage if this continues. Is there a way to lock the gate or lock the tailgate drop button out?? I got inside truck and lock all doors and gate continues to drop when hitting drop button. Any suggestions? Thanks

Did you try it when the truck is moving and/or in gear?
