Unfortunately I don't see a part number listed on the work order, just that the valve body was replaced.

Even so. The 462K recall is for 2020-2022 trucks/SUV's with the LM2 3.0 or L5P 6.6 diesels (the D-max 6.6 uses the Allison branded 10-speed, a HD variant of the 10L transmission family). Since the lock up recall does not include the 2020-2022 gas 5.3 or 6.2 it stands to reason there is a difference in the 10-speeds used in the LM2/L5P diesels from those used in the 5.3/6.2. Gearing, VB, clutch packs, programming. Maybe all.

 

While excessive wear in the VB of the 3.0/6.6 transmissions was identified as the cause for the rear wheel lock up recall the failure mode for the 3.0/6.6 is different than the failure more for the 5.3/6.2, for which there doesn't appear to be any reports of lock-up.

 

Probably just all academic. While the 3.0/6.6 and 5.3/6.2 failures involve the same sub-assembly, the VB, how they are failing isn't the same which is why the 462k recall doesn't include the 5.3/6.2.

I found out from a tech on Friday that the 3.0-mated 10 speed is nearly identical to the 5.3 and 6.2 variant. They use the same valve bodies.

That's interesting. 

 

Even if they are the exactly the same, something is making the VB's wear differently in the diesel equipped vehicles than the VB's in the non-diesels, which is why the 462k recall is only for the diesels to prevent wheel lock up, which the gas vehicles aren't doing.

Sure did, it’s buried in the first few pages of the thread. Took about 3mo for it to get fixed. My dealer was able to get a whole new transmission.

My mis-shifts were so bad that it would lock my rear wheels and break traction for a second, causing the cruise control to disengage. Was quite violent, and I have a 5.3L gasser. 22K miles on my new transmission, and so far I’m alright. Wish I knew about the NextGen’s when I was dealing with my repair fiasco.

That's interesting too, Michael, I don't think I've read a single thread - until now, about the wheel lock up issue with the 5.3/6.2.

Hi, not sure who this may help. It will HELP the Canadians with this valve body PROBLEM

 

I have a 2022 Silverado HC 5.3L 10 speed with ZERO reverse. It sat @ the dealers for over 2mos

with ZERO ETA. I went looking on computer & found CAMVAP. They will help us with vehicle problems

under warranty here in Canada. To make a long story short, 11 days after I contacted CAMVAP, I had my

TRUCK back ready to go. This all came down here in Ontario in mid March 2025. Canadians with this problem,

give them a try. Won't regret it!!

after a full month multiple calls to GM/BBB/Attorney General and multiple calls to the dealership finally got my truck back today. Horrible experience.Hope this helps everyone. let me know how everyone else made out.

Frustrated to say I'm now a part of the club as well. Let me preface this by saying I've owned multiple Ford's and drove hundreds of thousands of miles with never being stranded on the side of the road (call it luck, whatever). My truck was recently totaled and I decided to give GMC a go. Purchased a used 2023 Sierra 3500HD Denali L5P with ~33k miles, just 2 weeks ago (absolutely loved the truck so far). Over Easter weekend I traveled 3 states away to visit family, planning to tow a trailer back to my home state. The night before Easter I was topping the truck off with fuel, getting back onto the highway, and as soon as the truck went to shift above 6th gear, limp mode was activated, P0747/P0700 present. Obviously the dealerships are closed on Easter, I dropped the truck at a local dealership Monday morning (4/21). They complete their diagnosis and confirm the Valve Body needs to be replaced. Surprise, new valve body is STILL on back-order, with NO ETA for the new part to be available.

 

Dealership would not provide me with a loaner vehicle as I would have needed to drive it three states away. Understandable, I'll just work with GM when I get back home to get a loaner from a local dealer, right? Rental agency had no trucks available last minute that could tow, having to leave my trailer 3 states away as well. I've since returned home, (had to cover rental cost to get home) and the local dealership's won't provide me with a loaner as they're not the ones doing the repair on the truck. 

 

I've reached out to GM support, to which they offered a $44/day stipend for a rental vehicle. HOW am I supposed to replace a truck via rental for $44/day? And then I'm supposed to cover the charge for the rental until the truck is repaired, which we DON'T even have an ETA for!?

 

Aside from the replacement/loaner vehicle situation in the meantime, HOW is this part still on back order? I have multiple trips planned over the next month that require a tow vehicle, and no timeline when I will be able to get my truck back. So now I'm covering the charge for a rental and about to start making payments on a $70k+ truck, that's THREE STATES AWAY. This is just unacceptable from a major OEM, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't regret going away from Ford.

Unfortunately another data point supporting my choice to stay away from the 10 speed trucks.  Of course Ford is using the same transmission (or a varient) and is having similar valve body problems from what I have read.  Can't say if they are having problems with parts shortage though.

My 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 transmission valve bodies went in Oct and I got my truck back in early Jan. My dealer called me a few weeks ago and stated there was a conditional recall that took effect in April 2024 that needed to take place. The condition being anyone who had gone through valve body replacements under warranty. So for the last 2 days my truck was in the shop having this completed. 

The recall number is listed on the invoice but I couldnt find anything with more details on google.

Thank you for posting this! Ours was also replaced in October also and we have noticed a couple minor shifting issues. I'll try to call the dealer to see if we are included in the recall.

    • I’m definitely interested to hear the end result here. 
    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken. 
    • Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Years later, your thread is still helping Silverado owners.   I bought my 2025 Silverado 1500 in January 2025, and I've had what feels like the exact same rattle since day one. After reading your findings, I believe my truck has the same issue with the cable carrier contacting the rear sliding window. To be honest, I had pretty much given up on pursuing the issue. It wasn't until I recently drove another brand's pickup that I realized just how quiet their cabin was—and how noisy mine has been all along. On my truck, the rattle happens on almost any paved road, gets even worse on rougher pavement, and I can even hear it during braking and acceleration.   I actually referenced your thread when submitting my case to GM, hoping they'll recognize this as a recurring issue instead of treating it as an isolated incident. The reason I reached out to GM first is because my dealership told me they would need to keep the truck for at least two days just to diagnose the problem. I was concerned that even after two days, they still might not be able to identify the source of the rattle before giving the truck back to me. I had also asked a few dealerships about this issue during previous service visits, but none of them seemed to know what was causing it or had a solution. That's why I decided to contact GM directly first, hoping they might already have an official repair procedure or guidance for this issue.   I also hope GM eventually comes up with an official fix for this problem. I have a feeling there are many Silverado owners experiencing the same rattle, but most either choose to live with it or simply don't know what the cause is.   Really appreciate you taking the time to document your diagnosis. Your post is still making a difference years later.
