(2002 Silverado Crewcab, 5.3)

All,

I've been changing oil on vehicles for many years now and was able to snap the oil drain plug yesterday. I was able to remove the "stem" of the bolt and fortunately had a 2nd one ready to go. So, free advice, always have one ready to go. Cheers

That's good that you were able to fix it.  I install the Fumoto valve in all my vehicles.  Makes oil changes less messy and I like the fact that I can drain the oil as soon as I get off the interstate when it is super hot.  No burned hand taking out a drain plug.

I'm glad that you had a replacement handy, most people don't :)

One of the reasons I switched all of my oil drain plugs to the Fumoto valve.  I never have to remove anything, I just open the valve and let it drain with no cool down.  However, make sure you have a quality plastic or metal container because a cheap-o plastic container will deform if the oil is too hot.

Hey Gangly, do you have a link to the one that fits our pans?

I second, third, fourth what everyone so far has said about the Fumoto valve.  My truck still has warranty cause i got the extended and asked the service manager if it would void my warranty.  He did not know what it was and after some teaching and informing him some manufacturers install them from factory, he said I see no issue with this at all.

Oh ya, its also RIGHTY tighty, LEFTY loosey.  Not RIGHTY till OUTIE.  Eesh bud, easy on the Monsters LOL.
