Since when did not getting all the coolant out of the head bolt holes on aluminum blocks become a "new" problem?

 

Every shade tree worth his salt knows to get those perfectly dry or you'll crack the block torquing the new stuff down.

Most likely whatever facility created the castings wrong and GM has always proven to let it try and get passed warranty and fix the broken ones then throw parts out for fear of premature failure. Would you be happy making payments on your truck but stuck driving a rental Nissan Rogue for 3 months or how ever long it will take for GM to produce new engines? I bet it would then become a big deal to you.. Never mind the fact that now you are paying top dollar for a truck that had it's engine ripped out by Tony at the local GM dealer...

It wouldn't bother me because  I would trade the broken truck for new truck. They can sell it after it's fixed.

I'm not making payments 3-4 months waiting for a repair driving a nissan roge.

I'll make those payments on a new truck.

I've done this before and would do it again

I purchased a ‘23 LTZ last summer with a 6.2 and love it. It had 3K on it when I got it and now it has 18.5K. I hope it continues to be a great engine, it’s my 3rd.

Lol that is just not a realistic answer sorry, how would you plan on selling your truck with a damaged engine? Buybacks take a near act of congress and if you think you would just be granted one because you said so will likely result in you absolutely being bothered when they tell you nope!

 

What would actually happen is you will be left with no choice but to allow GM to fix it on their time schedule, you can then after it is fixed go sell it off, but you will no doubt lose that way too imo. Used values are no longer like during covid, dealerships no longer want your used trucks, they have too many now that they over spent on that are being sold at the auctions for a loss.

Well sorry but it happened. Truck was under warranty engine dead no oil , cooler line leaked all the oil out in a matter of 20 miles. Told dealer I don't want truck fixed I want a new truck. They gave me full trade in value and I just bought a new truck. No big deal.

Here's the new truck the day I bought it. 

BTW this was Feb 2022

It's not Feb 2022 anymore.  You won't get "full trade in value" for your truck in perfect condition today.

He is saying his engine blew out the oil lines and he told the dealer he wanted to skip fixing it and asked for a new truck and they gave him one.

 

Anyone who has been on this website and has seen the many customers who started a buy back process it went nothing even remotely close to his description. Maybe i guess a dealer could make a special exception if it was literally just driven off the lot and it came apart. Once you sign your name for that truck though it is your's, they will hold you to fixing it as they have 0 obligation to replace with a different vehicle. If they replaced without even trying to fix the issue then your dealership is not like most others.

 

But regardless the 6.2 engines do indeed have their fair share of issues, and if you happen to have a bad draw you are most likely going to have to play the fix it game by the dealer and GM's rules. Just the way it is..

That's not what I got out of it - sounded to me like he just traded as-is.  That is a thing you can do - problem is that if you do that at any normal time in history you are going to get lowballed by like $10k.  He had the good fortune of being in that spot in early 2022, when dealers were willing to do crazy things to get inventory on their lots.  So I have no doubt he got full trade-in value at that time.  But it's irrelevant cause that's never happening again.  

 

I know people who have done this.  Best case scenario, you have a good dealer that you've purchased from before, and they give you a decent offer (considering the situation) on your broken truck and a good deal on the new one.  It still doesn't work out in your favor, but it can be less painful...especially if you are facing spending $5k plus to get your current vehicle back on the road.

BTW I  payed almost sticker price for the new truck. Some dealers were charging 5G over sticker at that time.

The dealer fixed the oil cooler line filled it with oil and told me it was fixed. They sold it 3 days later to some poor fool. This is why I don't buy used.
