Here is one for the super educated Silverado electricians out there.  Let me give you the details:

2019 Chev Silverado (new body style) RST 5.3L crew cab.  Infotainment system is having issues as it starts to reboot multiple times a minute shortly after start up (although not always).  During reboots, it loses GPS capability (red line through on lower right hand side of screen), loses ambient temperature feed, sometimes loses climate control by touchscreen (works with physical controls), and usually will settle out and at least allow audio to be played.  Often it is XM only that is clear.  Bluetooth is staticy but still audible.  Music on SD card also static filled but audible.  Phone data like charging state, reception and battery state not visible on main screen.  When place truck in reverse, camera works great regardless of infotainment reboot status pre of post shift.  ON-STAR will operate as expected.

On good days when i start up and it only does a single reboot, then I have GPS and temperature data, and climate control capability.  Phone reception and charge state will show for about 15 seconds before disappearing.  Full control on screen of sources and settings.  However there are several things I can do to upset this applecart:

  • operating volume on steering wheel will cause screen to go black and then infotainment will reboot.  Sometimes this occurs with channel change as well on steering wheel.
  • plugging in phone via USB C or USB A port will cause the system to lock or enter full reboot loops for several minutes or more.  Rarely will it stabilize.  Apple Carplay is unusable.
  • Restarting vehicle after entire system shutdown is only way to recover the system completely.

Tried disconnecting battery for 10 minutes to allow system reset overall.  Did not remedy or help the situation.

Thoughts?  I have no idea what to do next as I do not have drawings/diagrams of the interrelationships of the stereo module with all other modules on the vehicle.  If replacing the infotainment screen/module was a slam dunk, I would lay down the cash to be done with it, but I fear that i would just be spending a ton of money to find out it isn't the issue, and I would then own two systems that are not helping me.

Any help appreciated.

Battery age and health directly affect all the computer systems. Especially after a startup when everything is booting up in all the onboard systems. Just because it cranks and fires up doesn't mean the battery is up to snuff. Low voltage drop confuses modules during their booting up.

Battery in top condition is critical in modern vehicles, it's the foundation for all the computer systems.

Thanks for the reply.  I’m not the original poster but was having the exact same issues with the exact same truck.  I had the battery checked and was told it was fine.  Just for anyone else experiencing this, I THINK I fixed it.   I was hesitant to do a complete factory reset.  But it was that or a constant rebooting system, that sometimes played music with no control to volume, station, etc….

With the constant reboots it took me about 20 minutes to get to the screen fast enough and hit the correct buttons.  I didn’t think I had managed to do it because the entire system turned off and the screen was completely black for about 5 minutes.  Eventually, it came back.  The GPS still had a red “cancel” circle over it but the next time I started the truck it worked also.

A friend and I also tried pulling what we thought were the stereo fuse(s) but it never turned off.  It was getting power but we were trying to check.  I don’t know if this did nothing or not.

good luck.

So I was having the same issues but I was also having slow or dragging start of my engine. Today I needed to have my truck jumped 2 times and in the end replaced my battery since doing so I did a fully factory reset on my system and it seems to be working just fine now. As I thought it was due to updating my phone to IOS18 and when it was connected it would just keep restarting. But in the end the battery was the issue.

Has anyone figured this out yet? I have the same issues. Even bought a brand new battery and whole new radio/head unit trying to replace everything I can before I am forced to take it to the dealership and pay a fortune.

Just checking to see if has anyone figured this out yet? I have the same exact issues. A new battery did not take care of issue. Intolerable at this point! Guess a Service visit is next.
