Wheel Center Caps

I have 22" and 20" OEM Denali rims. The 22" center caps have the silver "GMC" logo, while the 20" have the red logo. I prefer the ride of the 20", but I like the look of the 22" center caps better. Can I swap the 22" center caps with the 20" center caps? If so, is it as simple as driving them out from the back, wheels off the vehicle of course, and does anyone have any tips?

That should be pretty much all you need to do, just pop them out and and put them on the other rims.

So, they are a straight swap, as far as size and fitment goes? I assume they are plastic and not metal, is that correct? I guess I should also ask to be sure they're not designed aa a "use-once" application, in that once they're installed the tangs on the back might break off if I try to take them off, or are they quite strong? 

 

I haven't looked yet, but do I just tap them out by placing a wood stick into the center and tap the wood with a mallet?

 

What about putting them into the other rim? Do I press them in with my thumbs, or do I tap directly onto them with the rubber mallet? I ask because I don't want to ruin the finish on their face with the mallet.

Honestly could probably push them out with your fingers from behind, I normally just bop them with a end of a screw driver. Then they just pop right into the rims, just push them in. Nothing really hard about it.

 

They are designed to be removed and pushed back on over and over again, they have to come out anytime you get new tires for the balance machine.

 

Almost all the center caps for the GM trucks rims that kinda look like this are all the same. The center bore size never changes because the rims still use the same bolt pattern and hub design, the caps can't be any larger or smaller based on that.

Ahhhh, I never thought of all that you shared. Sounds like you're saying it's really no big deal, and is like an extra minute to push them out of one wheel and into the other as I am swapping the wheels on the truck one by one.

If its got the center caps like CamGTP posted, they are all the same size and would fit all the GM truck wheels that use that style cap.
