My L8T sounds the same, cold and warmed up, with new fresh oil as when just before its dumped with the recommended around 7,500 or when the dash gaugy thingy sais to change. Im very happy with my choice of my 2024 3500 gasser. Darn motor just puuurrrrrs.

Almost time to change oil on it, 3,000ish miles of it are towing a 10,000lbs tall 5ver with added wind drag of front AC unit. Not a noticeable drop of oil used. I would have to go look, but i think its at 25,000 or 26,000ish miles now.

The motor hasnt died yet using a reusable oil filter, and the catch can still catches some kind of crap.

I think its a great motor and transmission. For my needs.

I too am totally pleased with my gas truck’s drive train.  I have a 2021 with the six speed. It’s smooth, quiet, and powerful. The oil level drops maybe 8-12 oz between my 3750 mile oil changes. My interval is partly driven by my low mileage per year right now. I have just over 12k on the truck.

I think one of the reasons the oil experts here have recommended shorter oil change intervals than 7500 is that the additives that are intended to help prevent long-term intake valve area carbon build up lose some of their effectiveness prior to 7500 miles.  Even if you don’t have lubrication concerns at your interval, you might want to consider that. I have no direct experience or expertise in this area myself - I’m just repeating what I’ve read.

My 2015 ram 2500 with the 6.7 cummins diesel i had for 8 years and almost 170,000 miles. I did the recomended 15,000 oil changes, and the thing sounded like new, never used any oil.

So...not a 6.6 gasser. Not 5W30 gas engine oil. 🤔 Yea, sure, I see the comparison. 😒

Yes, lower AW and AO add packages, Yes more top ring FUEL DILUTION. Nearly double. Thank you GDI. Continued lower "in service' viscosity. Yes reversion to lower base oil choices. They make money and they make expensive trucks. You get to  pay for both.

The Dexos1Gen2 & 3 oils are not just at the bottom of the viscosity range. Under shear (towing) they are 20 weights when new and W16's used. Will it take it? For a while. How long is "a while"? How long is a rope.

In the carburetor days we change oil more often for the same reason as today gas getting into oil. We had a period of time where that wasn’t a problem. It really doesn’t matter how good the oil is if gas is involved. The short answer is more frequent oil changes. You can’t really say engines are better today without saying who’s. I strongly advised my brother in law against buying a 2013 Tahoe. Probably the worst year for cylinder deactivation. As he approaches 150K on 5-6K oil changes it keeps motoring along. He waits for a sale of motor oil at auto zone and puts that in. 300K miles is nothing for him.

Holley, Autolite, Motorcraft. All ran clean if you had half a clue and few did. I FIXED allot of these after the clueless got their hands on them. And I never had a customer that wasn't a expert. It's why they were in my shop.

In our county we had three guys the did carb work. We stayed out of each others sandbox. We had a Rochester guy and a Carter/Stromberg guy. Across the river we had a Euro guy. Weber, SU etc.

Oh boy are your right!

The K&N filter is not a reusable filter. For the nut, it's on the bottom. So to make it easier to install/remove. Now being disabled and retired, I don't get out much. Specially now in the winter. In a year and a half, it's just have 2000 miles on this oil change. When I was working, 6000 to 8000 miles a year. So I would change oil at 5000 miles. With being disabled these past years, the pickup only got around a 1000 miles for a couple years. And that dash oil life counter would say needs an oil change in less than 6 months. And it was just sitting in the garage. And so far shows no signs of oil usage.

Wife has a Verano that gets used like that. 2014 with 19K on the clock. Will blacken oil quicker than one that sees 25K a year and gets changed every 5K. Oil isn't fond of the elements. I change is ever fall and spring.

My wife’s Acura only gets driven by me. She can’t work a clutch much anymore. It rides rough, no sound deadening. It’s still fun in small doses. It gets out once a month. The last of our performance vehicles. We’ll probably never sell it. Reminds us of our crazy days. Once a year oil changes. I put 150 miles on it last year. It still smells new. I need to drive it more. I wish I’d kept a muscle car instead. She kept hers I didn’t.

I also have a Honda Goldwing trike. I have not rode it for the last 2 plus years. Being laid up. It got 100 miles or so put on it in that time by my sister and niece. The last oil change was in the fall of 2021. If I can't ride it this year. I'm going to sell it. It's a 2013 with 23000 miles on it.

im often wrong, but it is my understanding there is no egr on the or my 2024 L8T 6.6 gasser. As well as i have proven with the non really needed catch can, but i still like to look inside to see what it cought/catches, as well, doesnt put any ccv gasses into the intake. So should only be clean air going into said intake only.

    • Maybe, but it seems he is the only one that has backed up data to prove what he is stating. I think he is doing this more because he enjoys it and wants to get the information out to us. He's got the knowledge and access to the proper equipment and having the funds doesn't hurt.  I would love to do what he is doing and would do it if and when I hit the Powerball.  I'm not a Tribologist by any means but love to learn what I can.   I would bet there would be doubting people out there if a completely independent lab with high quality work and highly respected in the automotive industry, put out information like this.  The world can't be pleased, one just has to take the information that they are given, do more of their own research to find actual lab data to back up what they are trying to figure/find out.  Most don't bother, they just want to believe what they first see.     I don't have the minimax but my 6.2 in my 2019 Silverado with 64k miles shows excellent UOA results with 0w-20 and for my own purposes 5w-20.  Since not much of a change using 5w. I liked the data sheet information on the SS 5w-20 and figured I would give it a try.  Still the same viscosity at 100℃.   In the end we all just do what makes us happy, life is too short to get upset over trivial social media.   On a side note, I do feel GM has dropped the ball and just cares about the bottom dollar and not quality anymore.  "Like a Rock" has been long gone.  Seems "Built Ford Tough" has as well.
    • Better than stock but that's like putting lipstick on a pig
    • Hello, my 3 month old Sierra Elevation wont recognize a trailer with electric brakes? All the lights work correctly, but no power to the brakes?   This is the factory installed brake controller. If you manually push the knob, the display shows the power % but does not light up like my 2022 silverado.   I have an appointment with the dealer, but was checking to see if anyone else has seen this issue.    Thanks,
    • Been using SS 0w-20 from new, but wanted to change to the 5w-20 because I liked the data on the data sheet, to me it seems like a little better product. But as you can see, not much difference. This is also with running a mix of 10 gallons E85 to a tank topped with 93. It isn't a flex fuel vehicle so any higher I get a CEL for running lean on both banks. Yes my mileage takes a hit. Instead of 20 mpg I normally get on trips I get 17mpg. This is also using EaO17 filter.  What is amazing is I have the AMSOIL cone filter on it since I have the GM Performance intake installed and that air filter has 44k miles on it.  I just take it out and shop vac it off once a year.  I use the upholstery tool on my shop vac.  Works well.
    • So, lot's of googling and reading, and a trial fit found, that indeed they hit the newer fatter caliper. I did some re-testing today, and found just 3/16" worth of washers was enough for the wheel to spin freely. I added 2 more on each, and again it spun freely. Tested lock to lock with the 4 washers, about 5/16" not quite the 3/8" Im considering, but pretty close. No issues. I've been looking at the BORA .375" spacers and using extended lugnuts to get back lost thread due to the spacer. All the ET lugs I've seen are all .33" reach inside the wheel lug holes. For those that don't like spacers or think they're unsafe, I think it depends on what type of spacers you're using and making sure you get good quality hubcentric ones, and if you're using bolt on ones, regular mainenance, checking the spacer lugs. Not wanting or needing that much spread. Looking for the minimum that will let me run these rims and tires.  it does look to stick out a little, but I really want put these on. and use the stock all-terrains in the winter.
