revrnd Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 I should've crawled under by brother's truck when he was here to see what bars were in his 2024 2500HD (Dmax & VYU). From mine: I'm sure mine are the 'lightest' for the 2500s. I seem to recall in the past that Z71s & VYU equipped trucks used the same torsion bars. I can't say how diesel equipped trucks were built. I think the GMT400 diesels had their specific torsion bars. When I went back to the Truck Plant in 1997, we weren't building any diesels. Strange that only the LH bar has an L in the broadcast code. I think in the past they were like, RAA & LAA, RXX & LXX, etc.
bruceb58 Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 (edited) My 2024 Denali Gas have the exact same numbers. I wouldn't want any heavier. Not that a Denali would ever come with a snow package, but if I had that package, the torsion bars would be the first things I would change out. Edited November 24, 2024 by bruceb58
AndrewF Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Those should be the 4800 lb ones. I bought one of those in preparation to swap out my 6k lb plow package ones.

My last 3 trucks were HDs as well (w/ the plow pkg), so I'd probably think something was wrong in a 1/2 ton. My last 1/2 ton was a '94. I ended up adding 2 leaves on each side for the loading it saw, a snowmobile in the winter or firewood in the fall. The 3/4 tons were much more suited to the latter.

Mind you seeing the way its optioned, it wouldn't surprise me if it had the VYU springs (I know you can't order them specifically).

Great what I'm assuming is a LH bar w/ an R in the 'production' code. Which suspension/engine option(s) does it have? Edited November 25, 2024 by revrnd

Which suspension/engine option(s) does it have? Yeah that’s the drivers side/Left bar. I didn’t go to the other side to take a pic. 2500/gas with plow and camper package. With factory 5er package. 5600lb front 6600 rear. Edited November 26, 2024 by Pryme 1 1
lineman1234 Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 I just looked. My door jam sais 6,000lbs front 7,250 rear. Again, 3500 camper/plow prep. Also 5ver package. I believe my 2015 ram 2500 diesel, regular cab also, was 6,000lbs front, then 6,600 rear. The diesel was 1,920 more lbs front than the rear because of the motor.
Another JR Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Here are the front torsion spring part numbers from an MTU post a while back (left/right): 4400 FGAWR 84745473/5 4800 FGAWR 84745477/9 5200 FGAWR 84745481/3 5600 FGAWR 84745485/7 6000 FGAWR 84745489/91 2
Another JR Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 If anyone is considering a torsion bar change and wants to see a DIY report on what was involved, I posted a description and photos from when I did it on my truck here: 1

Unless you are actually using your truck for snow plowing or have a diesel, ZERO reason to have a heavier duty front spring on a 3/4T truck. My rear axle rating is 6600#. I can afford to pay cash for a Denali so I will take the lipstick! If the Denali Ultimate was available in gas, I would have bought that trim! If the work truck trim model is what you have to buy so be it...people buy what they can afford. I tow a 6500# travel trailer(possibly 8000# in the future) and a 6500/7000# boat so no need for anything heavier. It's why I bought a 3/4T! I enjoy the WAY smoother ride. If I wanted the rough ride like the snow package gives, I would have bought a Ford F250. I drove in a friend's truck with the snow package...was unbearable to me. He is probably changing his springs now! Edited November 26, 2024 by bruceb58

Definitely what I would do if I bought a truck off the lot with a snow package.
revrnd Posted November 26, 2024 Author Posted November 26, 2024 Depending on where you live keeping the plow pkg intact may help w/ selling it. The buyers of my 2000 & 2004 3/4 tons were specifically looking for plow trucks. I've never intended to plow w/ any of my trucks (3 others) but I figured the option would be a selling point. I don't think anyone would want to swap the bars back into a used truck. I had 'indexed' keys installed by an experirnced suspension shop on my 2004 after I had it for a couple of years. To say they struggled is an understatement.
