broken mirror, warranty?

I bought a 2001 GMC Sierra in a little over a month ago. So I still have the dealer 60 day/2500 mile warranty and the truck was GM certified, so I believe there is a 90 day warranty there of some sort. Today I was pushing in the passanger side mirror to make sure nobody took it off while driving by. Irony, it seems sealed the fate of that mirror when i pushed it in as i heard a cracking, breaking sound. As soon as I heard that sound, I knew the mirror's days were over. It now is loose as a goose, and has about 270deg of mobility *NOT GOOD* I immediately took it to the dealer, and they are trying to tell me its not covered under the warranty. They want $226 for the part, and another $68 for labor. Is there anything I can do here??

Probably chalk it up to the stupid tax, and just buy a replacement one off of ebay for 150 or so.. you can find them cheaper.. its only 3 bolts holding it on, and its real easy to remove and replace..

Look at the fine print on the warranty. It probably only covers major drive drain components. If not, I would lean on the dealer to replace it.

dude your bonned....I would press them for replacing it, if they wont help you and stick to thier guns, ask to see the manager and tell him your story then if he gives you some flack say hey look thats fine you want me to pay for it? ok fine, next sat and sunday of every week till you pay for it I am going to sit out front of your dealership and picket with my friends telling people that pass by that your just a bunch of CROOKS.

that should rattle him. if not at least you can get some sun while you picket...

I had the same thing happen to the driver side on my 2001 rado, the extended warranty doesn't cover that. If the motor goes out they would fix it. Until I buy a new one, probably an aftermarket on from e-bay, I just popped the glass out and then drilled 2 holes and inserted 2 big screws into the base and its been working fine for now, it just vibrates a little bit. I'm a little worried that if I hit something with it, or someone hits me what it will do to my door.

Thanks for the info.. I was able to have the dealer pay for 1/2 the part. Thats $113 out of their pocket. I guess that makes me a little happier. I found the same part on gmproshop.com for $180, but apparently that isnt affiliated with GM.
