I'm curious to see if this transmission is as bad as the internet claims.

In April, I traded my F150 for a new Sierra 2500 HD 6.6 gas after losing confidence in my old truck.

I tow a 7550lbs travel trailer 5,000 to 6,000 miles a year for an annual winter trip to Texas from Quebec, Canada, so I need a reliable truck.

Since buying the Sierra, the only issue I've had was with the infotainment system, which has been fine since the dealership update.

My main concern is the transmission and the lack of available parts. Spending $85K for peace of mind... yeah right ,

I now feel similar to how I did with my old truck before the long journey to Texas.

With 3,000 miles on the truck so far, everything has been good, but I can’t shake the worry of being stranded in Mississippi with no truck for months, stuck with just a travel trailer and nothing to pull it. Has anyone had any luck with their 10L1000? BTW nothing against Mississippi 😉

I'm somewhat similar to you in that I tend to read stuff online and over-worry about things. As I've gotten older, I've learned to either stop reading vehicle and health-related stuff online or take it with a grain of salt. You're going to hear the worst from the relatively-few people that come online to complain, while conversely not hear a thing from the thousands of people without any issues. Of course it's going to look like the ratio of issues to no issues is high, but in reality it's the opposite. I understand your feeling, though.

That said, I only have ~22k miles on my 2024 gasser 3500, but I haven't had a single issue with the powertrain. There have been a few other minor things the dealer has taken care of (infotainment was one of them), but otherwise this has been the best truck I've ever owned.

Anyway, I'd just say to enjoy your truck and only worry about any issues as they arise.

Maybe this will help maybe not. I did most of my heavy pulling from the late 80s to the early 2000s. I pulled very heavy around 25k with trucks that weren’t designed for it. I had a good trailer. Mostly Rams, some Fords. Just over 1 million miles. I cycled them out to crew trucks around 100K miles. I had one V-10 fail a factory defect. They were geared to be close to redline in fourth gear at 65 mph. The only synthetic we used in the beginning was Amsoil in everything. Barring factory defects you’re nowhere near maxed out with your truck. Keep the fluid changed you should be just fine.

Oh, I hear you. However, my tech advisor at the dealership told me it's a real problem. They have four trucks on their lot waiting for VB. They're selling a lot, so I don't know what percentage of what they sell is problematic, nor do I know the year involved. Anyway, I'm working on this Buddha quote: "If the problem can be solved, why worry? If the problem cannot be solved, worrying will do you no good."   thanks for your feedback Buck

Change the trans fluid to a 100% synthetic fluid. Amsoil, Redline, MPT, Triax.

It could be. When I got the Odyssey it would shake shifting at low speeds . At 127K miles it had one drop and fill Transmission service. About 4Qts. When I went to the dealer to buy transmission fluid. They wanted the vin number. I said you’re kidding right? The answer was they had several changes in fluid type for the transmission. I was sure I’d be replacing the transmission. I did three drops and fills. Luckily it’s super easy on this vehicle. Easier than changing the oil. 30K miles later I did it again. At 161K the fluid is nice and red. Smells like it’s in the bottle. And shifts like new. Nothing surprises me anymore. I’ve been around equipment all my life. And learn new stuff periodically.

Isn't the factory fill in a 10L1000 Dexron ULV?

And isn't that a fully synthetic fluid, already?

A quality, true 100% synthetic fluid is worth a try to me.

I highly doubt it's a true 100% synthetic like the ones I listed.

I'm not 100% on what the make up is of the factory fluid. But I know for sure AMSOIL 100% synthetic, and it is all I use in my vehicles from the day I get them.  The ULV AMSOIL is what you can use.  I have it in my 10sp in my 1500.

Well, I guess I was a bit too early to gather data for high-mileage 10L1000, lol. 😉

I am close to 23 000. Love mine so far. I have had a check engine light come on and it was a little hose for emissions down by the fuel tank. Nothing to do with how the truck ran. Might have let a little fuel vapors out into the atmosphere. TAKE THAT OZONE@ Anyway i too have concerns over the allidon "branded" 10 speed. Over 183,000 of these hd trucks were sold in 2024. Si I am trying not to fret over it much.

Hey, at least you now know what might fix a 130k-mile Honda Odyssey. Ask and you shall receive...everything you didn't ask for.

My odyssey just passed 160K. I got a extended warranty for an issue I had no clue it could have. Didn’t see it on their forums. Some use oil. Ours doesn’t. She’s prepared for our next trip this coming Wednesday. Island View here we come.
