That's just a dumb question. Because the engines have big enough sumps to keep the engine lubricated during the race, usually 12-14 quarts. Adding oil could cost precious time, or the entire race ($ millions and millions in sponsorships) and the potential of spilled fluids leading to disqualification.

But that doesn't mean they don't burn oil. Burning 2 quarts isn't unusual for a 500 mile Nascar race.

What? That makes no sense and nobody cares about your family business ownership stake here.

And yeah, I am technical. We're talking about engines on an enthusiast forum.

You’re a hoot. You can list yours but I can’t list mine? It does go towards experience. Of which I have lots along with the family business that is on going. But you can have the last word. It seems you need that. Rock on.🤣

So prove my statement wrong, offer factual data to the contrary instead of only chiming in with insults. I've actually worked with pit crews. Have you?

Tell us another story about how great your minivan is, I need a good laugh to end this one. Your sulking away in a huff indicates you finally Google-AI'd the question do all engines burn oil and even Alexa says you're a DA.

My minivan. I use for trips. My wife has to travel in the back seat so she can lay down. It’s a long story. I hated it for about an hour. I always had high performance vehicles or modified them. When it wears out I will get another one. If you spend time in one you will understand. I’ve never had a regular vehicle this long. And never replaced a vehicle with a same model. I answered because the topic was changed.

kNut, I hear ya. Minivans are extremely functional vehicles, they get gas mileage more like a car than a truck and have amazing hauling ability and are comfortable on trips. We can agree on that.

So you rather people think everyone has an oil burning problem? ........................... Maybe it all comes down to using Amsoil. Even during my extended days. If you don’t like it block me once again. I don’t need your approval.

Is that what I said Stan? Literally, what did I say?

Then you haven't any relevant input for those that have had that experience, right?

And this was in response to?????

Thanks for the info. No leaks using about a qt every 3k. I have 31k on it been burning oil since 20k. I will put Valvoline in it my next oil change.

My response was directly to the point of discussion. An experience SAID you've never experienced and so....you haven't any relevant experienced based information on that topic. It ain't that hard sir.

Why drag it into the weeds implying I said or inferred something you know I did say nor intend?  I know you have experience and are a good observer and I have always valued your input to the degree you share those experiences.

Humpy Bear, aka GM fanboy. Block us both please. Your irrelevant. @Grumpy Bear

I see you're one of those people that thinks they can 'say a thing true' if they repeat it long enough. Keep repeating to yourself, "Gravity is irrelevant and people that believe it are stupid." Then step off a cliff and ask yourself on the way down if physics gives a rats *ss about your belief. Your truck doesn't care either what you believe but it WILL respond to those beliefs exactly as you feed them.

I hit a nerve repeating your words back to you trapping you in your inconsistency and NOW you want me to block you and protect you from the big bad bear? Fat chance. Bear is hungry :rollin:

All combustion engines burn oil, literally, by design. The cylinder walls have to remain lubricated between strokes of the piston which means the rings can't and shouldn't totally wipe the cylinder walls clean when they pass. As such, oil on the cylinder walls is present during the combustion phase and is also susceptible to combustion, i.e. burning. And that's in a perfectly healthy engine with perfectly seated rings with perfect maintenance,........

True and well explained.

*********General comment below not directed to Atlas***************

So what does it mean when I say Pepper uses no oil?  That for the duration of my chosen OCI there is no perceptible movement in level on the stick.

When I change plugs on the DOD cylinders they have some oil on the threads. Normal. Explained by the above missive. So I know it uses oil. Just isn't a MEASUREABE amount by the METHOD I choose to gauge it by. The dip stick.

Why doesn't it change if it uses oil? Fuel, soot, moisture in a good GDI gas motor can be up to 4% total of the oil volume so in a six quart system at change time could be as much as 7.68 ounces of a six quart system. Call it a cup. Half a pint of lost oil made up by contamination products.

Think it through.

Grumpy humpy likes antagonism. GM has brain washed you into believing your driving habits control oil consumption ha!

    • I do have the 8 speed.  Interestingly enough, after driving my truck for the past 2 days now, I have not had the clunking issue at all!  I am beginning to think it may have been suspension/leaf spring related, and somehow when the shop put my truck on the lift to do their initial inspection, it relieved some built up tension/pressure that was causing my problem.  I swear it felt I was a bull rider on a bucking bull the way the truck would almost rock back and forth slightly before the big thud/clunk when coming to a stop.  I am hoping I got lucky here and it's gone for good.
    • Bring it to discount tire. They do free rotations even if you didn’t buy your tires there. I didn’t believe it until I tried and they did. You can tip the employee if you would like
    • Best part of this video is how it resets expectations. Wonderfully done piece. It also made clear a few points I've made from day one. Detergent oils DO NOT KEEP A MOTOR CLEAN at the recommended or longer change intervals. They just get dirty slower than a non-detergent oil and there isn't spits difference between them on this point if they carry the DEXOS license. Great thing about the license that gets missed is it assures CONFORMITY even it that means a low bar.    One thing he did not talk about that I paused on an magnified was the condition of the oil ring separator. Besides a stuck ring a plugged separator and land drain back is huge when it comes control. We see in short order improvement in control IF that is the problem.    Another item I took exception to and he did not make plain was the condition of the timing chest and under valve cover having something to do with indicating piston cleanliness. Schaeffer's Oil makes that same omission in their million mile Ford video. I'm guessing he has never torn down a Red Line HP, AMSOIL SS motor that has been on that diet from the get. What he showed in the video was a good deal of varnish. Something totally absent in Peppers 165K cover off look. I smiled because he did his at the same milage.    He also makes the mistake of assuming oil temperatures in the pan are the temperature all over the motor even though he makes note of the piston being the hottest part of the engine. that baffled me a bit.    I can tell you from personal experience and witnessing teardowns of family motors that even oils of the 1960's would keep them squeaky clean when OCI's were 1500 to 2000 miles without exception. At 3K and above you get what he experienced and the longer you leave it the quicker to gets to the junkyard.    I think his is missing a opportunity not tearing it down again when he's done killing it. Time would be his only cost.
    • Very often the part number on the trim part is just for the vendor order/assembly plant and will not show up in the parts system.  They won't make a bunch of extra parts that were not ordered. Keep in mind, lots of these parts were made to be "just in time" parts meaning they were dedicated to a vehicles ordered and sequenced for assembly.       Also, trim parts will often say, paint to match.
