NAV and 6 disk changer in a Silverado

Ok, thanks for replying, next question then. For the time being, i am just going to get the HU #15229287 or equvilent. Besides the antenna and disk, is the unit plug and play? besides getting the techII thing done on a used unit. 

If I buy a new unit, there is no need for the techII correct?

Yes, the unit is plug and play if it is a new one, you will have to add a wire from the gauge cluster wiring connector (dark green w/ white tracer in A4 position) to the 12 pin connector on the headunit to the "E" position. The wire is the VSS (vehicle speed signal) and it is only needed for the navigation function. The signal helps keep the navigation working smoother by providing a speed input when the GPS signal is weak.

I am new to the site. I have a Z-71 04 Suburban and I added the the NAV unit 15229287 with GPS antenna 15135178 and do not have the disk yet so could not try it. The 4th dealer was able to unlock it finally. The first three were clueless.

 

QUESTION: Will I need to add in the speed sensor wire as well or is it in the cluster of pre existing wires? If so are the instructions the same here as above?

 

I cannot currently look at the truck wiring harness since I am away at work in China right now for a month.

The VSS wire is not there, you will have to add it. Same procedure as posted

Thanks and was worried that the answer would be that. Does the wiring harness that plugs in the radio, 12 position "E", have the metal connector in the plastic or do I have to find one? If I need to get one, where do you get it? Also do you by chance have a Diagram of the where this all plugs into. I don't want to mess up plugging the wring thing since I really don't know what is pin 12 and "E" connector. I would love to look now but I am in China.

This is the C2 (12 pin connector) on the back of the headunit. The VSS wire will go into the "E" position and you will have to get a terminal wire end.

 

These are the terminal wire ends, GM number 12089649 that is a bag of 10.

This is the connector on the back of the guage cluster. You splice into the wire in the A4 position (marked as the green with white tracer) and run it over to the headunit's C2 connector and install as mentioned above. The best way is to strip a little insulation from the wire and solder the new wire to that and then tape it up good, or a crimp-on wire tap can be used.

Sierra Denali would be a perfect match for you, If you have a TNR use the 05 model year and if you have an INR use 04 for the model year.

I haven't messed with the cell connections but I think when you buy a cellular car kit for your model phone it will have the wires and directions for connecting to the headunit for muting when a call comes in and when it is in use.

I have a Lux amp out of a 2003 Hummer H2 for sale for $250.00 I decided not to do what I was going to because I would have to change out the HU, don't want to do that now. There are cheaper ones available on E-Bay I hear but I have not seen them. If you can get it cheaper , have at it. I gave more then $250.00 for mine because I was all fired up ready to go and found it at G&R over in Oklahoma City, they are proud of their parts. This one is part # 15199884 . Please make sure it will do what you it to first.

1) It seems like I heard the new touchscreen NAV units play MP3 cd's, but the older non-touch screen units do not. Is that true, or do neither play MP3s?

 

2) Besides possibly MP3s, and obviously having a touchscreen, are there any real differences between the two? Functionality or usability wise?

Can't say that I've heard of a TNR that can play MP3 CDs...and even if it could, think about what happens when you need to use the nav function, since it requires the nav disk to be loaded in order for the nav to work...

 

No other significant functional differences between the two, other than the obvious...well, not unless you include the fact that the TNR has a slightly-larger screen than the INR.

none of the current nav units will play MP3's, neither will the slave 6 disc changers.

The new Hummer H3 has a headunit that will play MP3's but I haven't seen one yet to know if we can upgrade it in our trucks.

Can anyone reccomend an AUX adapter to convert the CD changer/XM inputs into RCA so I can hook in my mp3 player?

 

I have seen the PIE GM12-AUX be a good choice?

Do you have XM or the changer? most of those input adapters will require you to have one or the other, and some will not work if you have both.

That is correct, the mapping DVD must be in the player for the navigation to function.
