NAV and 6 disk changer in a Silverado

My wife's 2004 Saturn VUE has a 6 disc changer HU that plays MP3s. It's amazing that the 2005 nav HU which was just came out doesn't.

 

Can anyone reccomend an AUX adapter to convert the CD changer/XM inputs into RCA so I can hook in my mp3 player?

 

I have seen the PIE GM12-AUX be a good choice?

Do you have XM or the changer? most of those input adapters will require you to have one or the other, and some will not work if you have both.

No, I have neither XM nor the changer.

I only have OnStar.

 

I just ordered a non-lux touchscreen off of ebay and was looking for a way to get more music into it since the drive will almost always have the dvd in it.

I don't buy many CDs anymore so it would easier and cheaper not to buy a changer and find a place to put it. I would rather have some RCA inputs and hook my mp3 player up.

I don't have an I-Pod, but would like to interface my Iriver MP-3 player through my TNR. Not concerned about the steering wheel controls, text, etc, just want to run my audio output imto my amp or radio direct to play it through the system and step up from the pos RF modulator sound.

 

Any clues at to what I need from any of the below mentioned vendors to do a plug-n-play if that's possible??

Also, I got my non-lux TNR '9287 in today. I installed it and that went fine.

Interestingly, my 04 Envoy must have a different ACC mode than the full size trucks. No matter what mode my key was in, it always displayed Theftlock. So I was unable to test out my unit at all besides the fact that it powered on.

 

So I went to FIVE different dealerships until I found one that was willing to listen to me and try the steps I had printed out to unlock it. :D I ended up at a Cadillac dealership and one of the techs there was more than willing to give it a try.

I did have to pay for a half hour of labor, but it was more than worth it.

 

Now my question. It so far appears to me, that in my Envoy, the VSS is already wired into the harness. When I start driving, some of the buttons grey out until I come to a full stop again. So unless this is a newer feature in the '9287 that it's getting the speed fromt he GPS itself, is it safe to assume that I don't have to do anything else?

Your Envoy most likely does have the VSS wire in the harness, vehicles that had the nav unit as an available option usually do have the VSS wire. It is the vehicles that didn't have the Nav unit as an option that don't have the VSS wire to the headunit.

The Trailblazer and Envoy run the VIN check on all modes of the ignition switch, so yes the theftlock will activate even in the accessory position.

If you haven't heard it enough, thanks for all your help. And that goes for all the pioneers of this.

 

If I hadn't known the difference between a lux and non-lux, I would have just bought the first one on Ebay and would have had a lot of learning to do as to why it wasn't just working.

 

By the way, thought I would share the deal I got too. I got a fresh pulled '9287 with the screen protector still on it, a Brand New in the box GPS antenna, and a brand new sealed DVD. All of that for a Buy It Now of $1150 which included NEXT DAY AIR. So I bought it on Tues night and had it in my hands on Thursday afternoon.

Are you sure they are in MP3 format on the burnt disc?, They may be MP3 format on your computer. The CD burning software allows you to choose the format they are burnt on the disc with. Most software defaults to WAV format for music CD's.

 

How many songs could you fit on those CD's you burned? If only around 15-20 then they are in WAV format (just like a store bought disc. If over 100 then they are in MP3 format.

I hear you on that dilemma; I got frustrated from not being able to access a ton of music at my finger tips...so I replaced the factory slave CD changer with a Pioner AVH-P6500DVD unit that can play DVDs and MP3 CDs. Yeah, it can only play 1 CD at a time (Pioneer offers a DVD changer for it but I think the changer doesn't support MP3 format) but one MP3 CD can hold more songs than 6 regular fully-loaded audio CDs--8+ hours/128+ songs at 192 kbps encoding. And yeah, going the route I did is a bit more expensive than adding an iPod w/ adapter...but at least I can watch DVD movies too! Oh yeah...FWIW--with the adapter I needed to install in order to interface the Pioneer w/ the factory audio, I can still hook up an iPod if I wanted to (no factory-control interface, though--I'd need a different adapter for that).
