Blue Headlights?

Recommended Posts

I've had several different brands. Most of them were 5000k bulbs.

The last pair I had gotten, the wattage was too high, it melted the wiring harness on my old ZR2...so needless to say I want the blue 5000k-7000k look BUT at a regular wattage that wont destroy the wiring harness for the lights.

Any suggestions?

I saw Eurolites on sounddomain.com but havent heard anything "good" about them. PIAA's are too expensive, I want something fairly priced...lol

Thanks! :loser:

Bulbs that actually cast a bluish light (as opposed to those that have a blue tint on the bulb, but produce a white light) are very bad for night-time illumination. Are you certain that's what you want to use?

The bulbs that I had in my Zr2 LOOKEd blue from an angle, but driving it was VERY white and clear.

They were 100w high/low bulbs. That is too high and it did begin to melt the wiring harness. I want something that is equal to factory wattage or somehow get a harness so that a bright bulb wont destroy my truck..lol

They had to up the wattage to get the lights as bright as the should be. That is because with the blue stuff on the bulb it actually filters the light and not as much passes through. I think it might be hard to find a blue bulb, with lower wattage, that performs just as good at night. Im going to have to second the Silverstars.

These were from Phillips, in fact I think there was a post on here awhile ago about a (better??) alternative to Silverstars. On a web site I stumbled on it mentioned them but nothing in detail and now I can't find it again. Can't even remember the name of them.. I have Silverstar low beams right now and they are pretty good. I'd like to get the high beams as well and change the DRL to amber.

Go to the following site for lots of info on the blue bulb controversy as this guy puts it. Daniel Stern Lighting

I'm not associated with the guy, just seen this page before and wanted to post that link. I will say, the blue bulbs are ANNOYING to on-coming drivers. Please, if you can avoid it, try NOT to go for the "HID Look". I can usually tell when one of these people is coming toward me at night. The light scatters terribly and actually makes for WORSE vision in inclement weather and makes for a blinding oncoming vehicle for the other drivers. Now, there ARE bulbs out there that will help to increase vision without compromising your, or other driver's, safety, and I think the link I posted gives some suggestions. Sylvania X-tra vision are a decent choice, I had these in my old truck, one that needed sealed-beam bulbs, and I think they perfromed BETTER than the lights on a Buick Regal. I felt the light was thrown farther and I had a better beam pattern than the Regal had, and I NEVER had high-beams flashed at me.

Sylvania X-tra vision are a decent choice,

I used these on my '99 GrandAm and liked them. However, they don't make them for the high beams for the '03 full-bodied trucks. However, I have found this site but haven't had a chance to see if they'll ship over to North America: http://www.powerbulbs.net. The '03s use 9005 and 9006.

Am glad for this thread because currently, my lights are VERY bright, but the high-beams are starting to rack up the hours on them. What is in there are Phillips, but the bulb doesn't indicate what kind. The local stores only have standard lights or SilverStars which for me, don't work well in heavy fog due to their blueish light. The lamps in my truck now work great, but I'm concerned about replacements of at least the same color and "reaching out and touch" ability. I have absolutely NO CARE at all of "how cool" that they look.

The PowerBulb web site above sells the Philips Premium 9005 and 9006 bulbs which I **think** are what I'm after. These are brighter than the standard bulbs. They use clear lamp construction rather than blue tint or colored lamping.

I liked the Silverstar low beams so much I put them on my High beams. Then I discovered that I needed them both on at the same time when driving the desert roads at night to keep from shifting from high to low beams as I ran up and down the whoop de doos. I installed a headlight controller that allows me to keep them both on at the same time. It only took a few minutes to installa nd works great. It cost $50 bucks but it is worth it to me.

http://www.premiermotoring.net. I believe this is the website where I found the controller.
