2002 TrailBlazer Transmission Shift Points

When cold, my TrailBlazer likes to shift 1-2 and 2-3 at about 3000+ RPM on a normal gradual acceleration.  When warmed up shifts are closer to 2300 RPM.

Is that the way it's supposed to work?

I can't say for sure, but it does sound like a normal operation.  I know on the 4L80E and Allison transmissions the torque converter will not lock-up until the transmission fluid reaches a certain temperature.  With the converter unlocked it creates more friction, which in turn makes heat, and warms the tranny up faster.  Sounds like the same type of thing going on with your truck.

I'm not sure of the torque curve on the Vortec 4200, but the old Vortec 4300 V6's torque peaked in the 2800-3000 rpm range.  As such, under minimal to moderate acceleration, that's where the shift points were...2800-3000rpm in 1st and 2nd.

Thats normal.  On the new silverados the trans shifts funny until it warms up.  There was a tsb stating this is normal trans operation.

I think its a feature to add protection to your trans and do away with wearing

You will get used to it
