I got my new toy the beginning of March and I finally got the weather to take it out on the water. It runs about 60 mph and is alot of fun. This one is alot different them my old 92 wave Runner III.

Nice buy man! Did you know that Riva has a Supercharger kit for that boat now? It is a Vortech V-9 Blower. Its even intercooled. Makes 50HP over stock on 92 octane pump gas. Personal Watercraft Illustrated tested RIVAS supercharged FX and got a top speed of 69.74 out of it. Bad thing is the kit costs $4900 bucks. A new prop, grate, ride plate and sponsons might be a good idea to do also. The possibilities are endless on the FI boats!! RIVA makes that possible.

Im more of a Kawi man myself. Ive done a few "minor" things to my boat and can push mid to high 70 on glass. I want more speed now. Carbs or pipes are the only way for me to do that. But both cost way too dam much!! Oh well.

I've been thinking about getting a PWC myself. I bought a truck to two something around didn't I? How does that thing compare to the Honda F-12X (I think that's the model). It's the 2 seater with the 1200cc turbo.

Id stay away from the F-12X. Its too big!!!!! Try to find an R-12X. A much smaller and nimble craft than the F-12. The R-12X is of course a turbo platform. The FX is not. So the upper hand there goes to the Honda. Both machines have bullet proof 4-strokes. Both machines will ride, handle and react differently. I have ridden the R-12X and enjoyed every minute of it!! It was a very predictable ski to ride. My Ultra has a mind of its own. So riding a ski that had a nice smooth ride was nice. But with me, flickability is an issue. Bigger crafts do not posess that attirbute because they weigh too much. But they will give a smoother ride in the chop. Heavy weights make the ski ride lower in the water. For speed that is a no-no. The lease amount of the ski in the water the better. Both skis have untapped potential from the factory. Performance mods for the Hondas have been around for a while. Plus Greddy and HKS products can be used on the Honda turbos. Along with their boost controllers!!!!! FUN FUN!!! Where RIVA, R&D, Skat-Trak, Solas, Beach House etc. etc are starting to come out with go-fast goodies for the FX platform. My advice, ride both. See what suits you best. Each skis attitude will be different. That is bar none the best thing to do when it comes down to seeing what craft fits you best.

Another thing, see what you can do about riding a Kawasaki 1200 STXR. That ski is sweet!!! Very competetive ski in stock form. By competetive I mean handling and ride not speed. Although the STXR will hit around 61-63 in stock form. But the acceleration is unbelieveable, that thing will rip out of the hole. I want to sell my Ultra to get one of them!!

Ah, OK. R-12X. I thought I might not have gotten the model number right. I just know that I want the two seater with the turbo and not the three.

Here's a silly question. Are these capable of towing a skier?

I have heard about the Riva Kit. For now 60 is fast enough for me. Alot better then the 38 my old boat would do. Maybe next year. it is a very nimble because it is constructed of sheet moulded compound not fiberglass. There is over 100 lbs of weight savings. The moter turns 10K and is very quiet while doing it.

If you want to tow a skier then you need to have a three person boat to keep the long arm of the law away. You need room for the driver, observer and the skier.

SMC is good stuff. Most hulls now are made of SMC. I figured that HO would weigh a TON. Its only 177Lbs heavier than my ski. Flying off the ski and hitting the water anything over 55MPH hurts like a Mo-Fo!! What lakes do you ride on? Do you have a few other skis?

Nice John!!!

Those things are a blast wether they are fast or slow!!! Yours sounds like it does pretty good!!! :sigh:

My buddy has a hopped up Yamaha 1100 I think, I saw close to 70 MPH while on the back of it!!! CRAZY!!! :)

That probably depends on state/local laws. Here you can pull a skier if you have rear view mirrors.

Just remember this PWC folks. Public service $0.02 from the other kind of boater. Boaters do not like you getting close to them. They can't turn on a dime like you can. They will throw rocks at you when you shoot directly at their stern at 50mph to jump their wake. It scares the hell out of them. They don't trust you, no matter how nice of a guy you are. :)

Congrats on the new ride though!! Looks great! :sigh:

I stay as far away from the boaters as I possibly can! Some people should not even be operating a boat.

Hmm, personal experience? :sigh:

I also stay away from boats. Wake jumping and spinning around in circles is not my thing. I bought it to mostly cruise the intercoastal water way.
