Tranny wiring, help, for a gauge..

i have a mechanical gauge right now..but i don't want to tap into the pan in case there are leaks or something hittin it and fallin out. i want to do a electrical gauge so i just have to tap into the wire and run it to the gauge. is this possible. i think our 4l60E's have a temp gauge somehwere in the system which we can tap into right? any ideas? which wire, where??? thanks!

I don't know about the old body style trucks, but you are correct concerning the new body style trucks. If you plug a NBS HD cluster (with a tranny temp gage) into a NBS 1500 series truck, the gage will function.
