My family likes the running boards for getting in and out of our Suburban. But there was no easy way to get to the rear deck, even with the factory step bumper. :flag:

So we gave the CARR Folding Hitch Step a try. It is a small device that easily fits into the 2" receiver. Folded out it makes a great first step for entering the rear deck. It sticks out less than an inch from the hitch. :D This was an important factor to me since I didn't want anyone busting their shin or knee on something that stuck out too far. I intend to leave the hitch step installed and remove it on the rare occassion that I tow.

A receiver lock is a good idea to prevent theft. You can get all kinds of designs on the flat part of it. I chose the blank face for a cleaner look.

Pros: Cheap, small, low profile and can be kicked open/closed.

Cons: The rubber gasket (anti-rattle) was a little thick and needed to be muscled on to get the pin through. :jester: Overall body is 2" lower than the hitch end (if you are worried about approach angles). Not really useful as additional protection from rear endings like the Bully Bar nerf style. :P

Alternative products:

Flip Step - beefier with built-in brake light but more expensive.

Bully Bar - Chrome Nerf Bar Hitch Step

More nerf style hitch steps - not my style, but would match side nerf bars.

Twist Step - much larger platform, but more expensive and sticks out farther.

www.trailerhitchstep.com - step for use with drawbar and ball - ugly but functional.

That is a great product, I picked one up for my Wife's Envoy that reads" MY TOY", she thinks it is the greatest thing!!!

I strongly recommend it!!

An update......a sad one no less.

During a rather hasty departure off a steep driveway to the street I broke off the step completely. Only the receiver section of the step remained.

Doh! :flag:
