steerng wheel shake

b4 i take it into the dealer, im wondering if anyone knew what would cause the steering wheel to have a steady shake to it, and also when i cut the wheels i get a knock coming from under neath somwhere.

my wheel shook like crazy at 40mpg and 60 mph. This happened after I got my new tires. I rotated them and the shake is gone. I figure one of the front wheels isnt balanced right and now that it is on the back it doesnt cause the vib.

 

Might be a tire balance problem. I would start there

if it does it all the time at a certain speed I would check for tire balance/bent rim, if it only does it when you step on the brakes then its a warped rotor

You can also get a shimmy/shake at certain speeds when you have a ujoint going out.

Definitely check the tire balance. I had a bad vibration at 60mph after a flat repair - I guess the yutz didn't get the balance quite right (I have to wonder if they did it at all looking back).

Once I got them rebalanced, the shake was totally gone.

any ideas on the knock when im turning corners? i was kinda thinking balance on the other issue to but figured that would be to easy of a guess.

im getting a noise from the torsion bars on mine.

If you have not done so already, have the intermediate steering shaft replaced.

I had vibration in the steering wheel for the last year. It eventually got worse and became a clunking noise when turning. Thanks to the people on this web site I had the dealer replace the shaft and the truck drives like new again!
