Trouble changing EGR valve 01Tahoe

Recommended Posts

New to this site. I was told this was a very good site with friendly knowledgeable members. I hope I am posting in the correct area and haven't listed too many questions for one post to get the answers I am wanting?

I have an 01 Tahoe with 51K that threw a code for a poor EGR valve. I am also getting poor gas mileage.

Would the EGR have a significant impact on the avg mpg? (10-12 mpg)

Can anyone provide advice on changing the EGR valve on an 01 Tahoe (4.8L)?

(It doesn't look too difficult but????)

&

Who has the best price on the replacement part?

Thanks,

Jerry

Man this is bad timing. I just packed up my Helms manuals yesterday (moving down to Indy this weekend). Itll be the middle of January before I can get to them :seeya: if you still need the instructions then I can scan the pages.

Here is the Ac Delco Part Number

214-1080 VALVE,EGR

W/O GASKET PROD 17200259)(GASKET 219-230 REQUIRED)

EMISSION / EGR VALVE GASKET

01 219-230 GASKET,EGR VLV

Just an idea but I wonder if the gasket is possibly leaking? My impala keeps throwing a code for the O2 sensor/pcv valve. I think the rubber boot around the pcv valve is leaking

If I don't get any replies I will get back with you.

What do you think about the gas mileage?

Or is it that difficult to change out?

Thanks,

Jerry

What kind of milage were you getting prior to the code? I know around No I loose some MPG just because of the weather (colder).

As far as changing it I dont exactly know where it is but I would imagine it isnt to difficult

WAIT!! :seeya:

My Tahoe threw a EGR Code too, and I know its not a cheep part..SO try this..

remove it (2 bolts...simple) Get a can of parts cleaner or brake cleaner and spray the hell out of it. Chances are the little pintale in there is stuck and throwing a code. That milage is right about when mine went. You will get a lot of carbon off of it.. Spray it in the little holes, let it sit and repeat.

I tried this, and it worked. spend $3 on the cleaner 50k miles later no codes yet. I figured heck if I dammage it by trying ...OH WELL I was going to buy one either way! Worh a shot right!?

Worked for me, hopefull you too.

Any time the SES light is on I would imaging your MPH 'Could' be affected.

It hasn't been getting great mileage for a while. I was getting 17-18. It seemed to drop off before it got cold here?

Yes, Sir. I understand that. I guess I am a gluten for punishment? Just curious what everyone else is getting on average?

Nothing that really stands out at me as far as I can recall.  Then again, I dont calculate it for its too painfull to know how much I spend on gas as it is! :seeya:
