SUBJECT: Customer Satisfaction Program 04B24:

Certain 2004 Model Year F-250/350/450/550 Super Duty, Econoline, and Excursion Vehicles Equipped with a 5R110 TorqShift Transmission

Transmission Reverse Planet Replacement

PROGRAM TERMS

This program will be in effect until September 30, 2005 regardless of mileage. Coverage is automatically transferred to subsequent owners.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

Certain 2004 Model Year F-250/350/450/550 Super Duty, Econoline, and Excursion vehicles equipped with a 5R110 TorqShift transmission built from March 8, 2004 through June 24, 2004. Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS....

REASON FOR THIS PROGRAM

Some 2004 MY Excursion, Super Duty and Econoline vehicles equipped with a 5R110 TorqShift transmission may have low/reverse gear set pinion shaft(s) that may walk out, causing metallic particle contamination. If this condition were to occur, it may lead to harsh/slipping shifts and/or harsh/delayed forward/reverse engagements. If these symptoms are ignored, this could eventually lead to a transmission failure.

SERVICE ACTION

At no charge to the vehicle owner, dealers are to replace the reverse planet assembly on all of the affected vehicles. Note: If vehicles are repaired in a timely manner, secondary transmission damage can be avoided.

REPAIR OF IN-STOCK VEHICLES

Dealers should service in-stock vehicles first because these vehicles will not have secondary damage, and will not require additional repairs beyond the reverse planet replacement.

OWNER NOTIFICATION MAILING SCHEDULE

To ensure the needed supply of parts are available for dealers , owners of affected vehicles will not be notified by mail until the beginning of January, 2005. Please note that dealers should repair any affected vehicles that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter. In addition, dealers should repair in-stock units before sale to minimize future customer inconvenience.

LOL, and yet ford guys give heck of Allison transmission going out (which you hardly see), just goes to show that the the almighty fords have recalls and problems just like everything else.

What is really funny is that the larger Fords, the F-650 and F-750, have Allisons, NOT the 5R110.

I guess ford guys dont think when they decide to bash the allison transmission's that are equipped in the HD Silverado's but dont know there also equipped in there furd's.

Not really. I hang around a couple of high traffic Ford forums and I see very few guys "bashing" the Allison transmission. In fact, it's more often just the opposite! There are alot of guys that say stuff like "I really like my Ford diesel but I really wish it had the Allison like Chevy offers". If you read through them you'll find out die-hard Ford fans bash the Duramax and GM's low frame/body clearance alot more often than the Allison.

My F250 has the trusty old 4R100 4 speed with O/D d/c switch and since I'm hearing of the troubles with the TQ-Shift, I'm glad!

I have never owned a Ford, and probably never will. That being said...they sure handled it well! At least they don't say that every noise, slippage, clunk, or whatever is "normal".

I give Ford credit...they are doing the right thing in immediately fixing it.

Exactly. I have yet to read any educated posts that talk down the Allison. Anyway, I love my F-350 PS. It's built like a tank.

Not trying to hijack the post, but is it really true Ford is going to a V8 Cummins around '07/'08. I've heard there are test Mules around Texas with this combo already. I agree, at least they aren't saying it's "normal". Chris

I belive they are scrapping the 6.0. Its to many probs.

I have heard they may go Volvo, or Catipillar. But that was just guesses that I heard. But Dodges contract with Cummins is over in 07? i think. But Rumor is that they will resign again for a long time.

I dont think Catipillar will go small for any of the big three, mostly CAT diesel's are meant for the big rigs, but seriously whats wrong with the Powerstroke 6.0, it seems to a good engine to some, but if i was a diesel mechanic i would say its pushing to much RPM's which tells me less engine life, what Ford should've done was stick with the 7.3 which i think would've done better for the long run but with emissions and all, figure's why came the 6.0.
