New Truck, New to Board!

Hello to All!

I am absolutely brand new to the board and a GM product. Just got rid of my 2003 Dodge Dakota QC 4X4 in place of a 2005 GMC Sierra SLT Crew 4X4. Taking delivery on Monday (3 days from now).

Truck appears to be outstanding companred to what we're coming from. We needed something that could haul our travel trailer a little better than the Dakota did, and one of the GM Dealers gave me too much of deal to refuse even though I've never even thought of owning a GM product in the past (always Dodge and Ford).

Anything I should expect from this truck? Any common problems to watch out for? How long of a break-in period should I allow for before hauling out trailer (weighs about 5000 lbs loaded up)?

Look forward to your replies and all future posting and responses on the board. Glad to be here!

Welcome CalgaryGMC.

Comparing my 05 to the F150 or Ram................Chevy hands down. The look, the ride, the power..........it's the cadillac of trucks......my opinion.

There are a lot of great people here that have great advice. Can't help ya with the towing either, I haven't towed anything yet..................so I guess all's I can say is hi and welcome aboard.

I'd get 300 to 500 miles on it before I tow.You will love it,I went from a 03 Ram QC Hemi to a 05 1500 Crew Silverado with no regrets, its a quieter, rides better, gets better mpg and is built better. You'll love it!

I'd wait until at least 500, and change the oil at 1,000 miles to make sure there arent' any shavings from break in.

Expect to save a little money at the pumps. GM has both Ford and Dodge beat when it comes to fuel economy.

Welcome aboard.

Welcome aboard

GM pretty much has worked all the bugs out of these new-style-trucks since their introduction in late '98 so you should be good to go.

Some still have problems with the intermediate steering shaft though.

If you do,You'll know it,You'll hear a clunk noise under the hood and you might be able to feel it in the steering wheel.

Like others have said, change your oil for the first time around 1,000 miles and you'll love the gas mileage compared to your Dodge.
