I just read from that insiders forum site that the 2005 silverado has a new face and they are getting rid of the sport bed. Why would you get rid of the sport bed i have always loved that type of bed. Does anyone have a picture of a 2006 silverado i couldnt find one and if you have any info on the truck that be appreciated.

A while back there was a picture on GM Insidenews and I had posted a link in the discussion forums. However the picture has been taken down. Anyway the basic truck is the same but they put the HD front on it

 

The grille is like the HD; the hood is like the HD and the top of the bumper is now color matched to the body, sort of like on the GMC. No big changes, since the General is getting ready to do a completely new truck in a few months.

 

Also, here's a link to the 2006 GMC changes; I imagine the Chevy will be very similar.

Just as vroten said,Basically they gave the 1/2 tons the "HD" front end for '06 with the top bumper pad painted body color,The only other thing I noticed on the first '06 we got here was that the lower bumper fascia is now black instead of gray.

Oh and they cheapened them up again by not putting on the "CHEVROLET" nameplate emblem on the lower RH corner of the tailgate (I guess they figure by now everyone knows there behind a Chevy ) and they took away the carpeting on the lower part of the interior door trim panel (Just like they took away the cloth insert on the upper part in '04)

And the value engineering continues

One other thing I forgot to mention I noticed,They changed the shift quadrant on the cluster from digital back to a normal one,Its still electric with no cable but the "PRND321" readout is not digital anymore,Theres a little light under each one to tell you what gear your in.

So that means the clusters for '06 are all by themselves.

I saw a new 06 1500 excab on my dealer's lot and I took a look. The HD frontend with the body color bumper cap really helped dress the front end up, along with the black lower plastic. I also noticed that they removed the CHEVROLET emblem on the tailgate, but they left the Silverado one alone.....so GM starts putting millions of little GM emblems on all the vehicles but they keep removing ones like Chevrolet, can this be a sign of the future? Also it was the trim level LT1, which was a upscale cloth bench seat and not many options. So the trend continues, less stuff for more money

Does anyone know if that 06 bumper cap will work on the 03-05 1500 silverados, I would like to get one (painted) for mine.

They are probably getting rid of the sports bed because of 2 big reasons:

 

1. it doesn't sell very well

 

2. it defeats the purpose of a truck, a truck is intended to tow and haul, whats the point in having a skinny sports bed?

Nobody that I know of has tried it yet (and since the '06s just came out its a little too soon) But I don't see why it won't.

Have you seen the new Chevrolet PT Cruiser? Oh sorry, I mean the HHR? It looks like the PT not to mention the new H3 looks like a Jeep Liberty. Are they trying to steel designs from Chrysler?

We got three of the HHR's in last week. Not a bad little (and it is little) truck. Decent price too, unlike the vastly overpriced SSR. The ones we have range from 16k to 21k pretty loaded. Even with the 2.4, it's has a little less power than I like, but not too bad.

2.  it defeats the purpose of a truck, a truck is intended to tow and haul, whats the point in having a skinny sports bed?

Here's a picture of an 06 on the Carmax New Car Chevy dealership's website near Chicago. The truck is dark blue, but you can still get the basic idea.

They have a 06 1500 CC 4x4 exactly like my 05 1500 CC 4x4 except for the grill and hood at the GM sponsored Seafair hydro races this weekend. I don't know, I just can't warm up to the HD hood and grill on the 1500. Maybe it's because that is what is on my 04 3500 dump truck, right where it belongs!

What do u mean it defeats the purpose of a truck to have a sport bed. Thats how all the trucks used to come in. Its what was the norm untill lately. I think you jsut dont liek them.
